I didn’t think they were having an internal review? Everything was fine and dandy a few weeks ago.
I have for some weeks wondered if we are being fed the narrative by certain sources. Who knows, he should go as should most of his team.
Anyhow this is my major take and I will leave it at this as I already woke up to dreaming we lost at home to Everton 4-0 with Pickford scoring after 10 minutes.
Injuries
He states injuries but the majority were to players he played rather sporadically and up til about January he had a team and squad of guys he could call on, this wasn’t that previous title defense season in which Klopp was having to find whatever he could or league cup final situation when he had to call on changes.
Maybe was left short, I am not sure why certain players were flogged but if it is simply down to wanting a smaller squad then he can’t use it as an excuse. The use of Bobby Clark say by Klopp, we got 10m for him, not sure whether it would have been better keeping him, Endo plays cameos and then you expect him to play full games after 2 seasons of that, its asking for trouble.
Fitness
Second point is fitness in general, they drop off a cliff around 60-70 minutes, Brentford was decent but the same issues reared their ugly head, they shouldn’t be flying anywhere for a holiday in season time. I hated the warm weather breaks under Klopp but this was taking the piss. If Slot genuinely feels they could do with time off send them to some luxury spa breaks or something, give them down time but all means but flying to Rome and then posing on instagram after serving up the dross on a weekend really doesn’t help the connect with fans and that is on the head coach.
Inability to adapt
I’ve been mocking that it’s like Rodgers end but he even tried to adapt to get results, we’ve plodded on the same path all season once the Palace and Soton games. No attempt to adapt or even try something new. There is nothing that gives me hope for next season, pleading some wingers and informing us that will somehow change everything is delusion. And it’s not really something I can buy into.
Home Life
I think this is problematic as he evidently wants to spend time with his family and I totally understand that but the 3 year commitment to a job abroad, if you can’t then don’t take it. I don’t much care about the city and that kind of silliness but we have seen with a few managers living out of a suitcase is not a way to perform.
Performance
It’s been relatively poor and it’s only really been addressed in that puff piece interview they did on the official around February. And performances have got worse.
Players
Lot of scapegoating with certain players but when every single one of them looks fucked to various levels whose fault is that? Every single player or the coach who set them up?
Yes we have factors, Jota’s death is one and injuries especially after around march but he hasn’t helped himself with the latter. Ultimately we need a clean slate, perhaps to rejuvenate what we have, develop what we bought and move forward. I thank him for the title we won and he did win that, he developed and changed and delivered but there isn’t one thing that I can see that helps him now.
And please don’t offer him a new contract to state intent, that would be the worst idea possible, a statement outlying that he has a 3 year contract and that we look to fulfilling that is the most I want to see.
Yeah, it’s highly embarassing stuff, these banners…
But the fact that the club says nothing (while not offering Slot a new contract) is precisely why I think that Slot will be disposed of shortly.
Not the slightest idea who they would want to appoint as his replacement though, now that Xabi is gone. Iraola doesn’t seem to be on their list. Hopefully it’s not that * Glasner…
Fine there’s a fitness issue. Effort is a mental one. We were failing in both. The players have some responsibility for both. The effort one in particular.
Playing the devil here to inject something different into this thread.
Or…or…FSG DO intend to sell us and are treading water…no further deals for Slot, Hughes, Edwards. No extensions for Virgil or Ali. Clean slate for whoever buys us.
There would not be any banners if the cub had been managed well in the last 12months.
Embarrassing as it may be, FSG need to realise LFC is the centre of some fans lives, and if they want to force merch on us, they can take the banners. Just as they are emboldened by the murals.
I remember reading one of the books and it said that during the winter months, the squad had problems practising corners and other set pieces as the players had to stand around without running. According to the author (probably quoting Kloppo and/or the coaches), at the warm weather location during the break, the team practised more on the set pieces and we were much better at scoring from corners right after those breaks.
This is a massive problems in the eyes of LFC Supporters. I believe that only Shankly, Dalglish and Kloppo truly gets it and we have been spoiled. Connection to the city and the supporters of the club are extremely important to us (yes, yes, even though I only lived there for 3 years), even more so to the Scousers. Slot may have been trying (attending the events such as Alder Hey Children’s Hospital during Christmas) but did not appear to make the non-PR efforts that a lot of us expected (Kloppo has set the bar a bit high for many to follow TBH).
There is a lot of coverage of how well the players policed themselves in the past, with credit given to Millie and Hendo in particular. People will point to that and say its up to this group of players to have set their own standards and police that so they can perform on match day, but it just does not work like that.
I don’t expect the players to be fully driving their own fitness levels, but I do expect them to put some effort in. Were we seeing performances illustrative of players emptying the tank? I’m not convinced.
Of course they have to put in effort. This isn’t just an eye test to see if the effort has been put in. Players’ resting heart rate, VO2Max, lactate threshold, heart rate recovery…are all measure and each player is measured to their bespoke markers to ensure that they are improving and improving at the right rate. Otherwise they’d be put on specialised diet and training regimen. You can’t just get away by “being lazy”. This isn’t PE in school.
The overwhelming culprit is Slot’s fitness regime.
Seeing Dominic King and David Lynch come out with articles/tweets about how toxic the fanbase has been towards Slot, and essentially brushing right past all his failures, should give a pretty clear indication of where they get their information from.
