In Germany it’s normal that all kind of hierarchy above the head coach (like manager and sporting director) speak to the media. Basically you hear them once a week - either before the matches or in the news.
Personally I hate that but guess that’s where @Cologne-Liverpool is coming from.
This is from the TIA article about the Hughes interview.
“It is rare that we hear from Hughes, with Slot the one left to discuss transfer business publicly despite his defined role as a head coach, which is not always fair on the Liverpool boss.”
Apprently it’s not just some German who’s noticing this. It’s weird to me that this is still treated like a ‘manager’ from the past, when it’s not the role anymore.
Doesn’t have to be every week for me, but sometimes it could help take some pressure off the coach. And just for the record, I said this on here when Slot was given the job, that this would be my hope for the future. That’s all. Thank you for attention in this matter.
Remember Arne’s 1st game, half time Quansah not performimh and he unceremoniously hooked him, that is what is needed now show to players that you have to perform or somoeone else will have the opportunity.
Yes, I was thinking if Slot put Grav as the 3rd CB to play 343 it’d be just like what Rodgers did with Can. Feels like we are closer to the slip of 2014-15 than the bad title defend of 2020-21.
We also lost so much athleticism in the team that Klopp built up, and I still don’t know what’s the solution to have all of Wirtz, Isak, Ekitike and Salah on the pitch together.
A black mark against Slot imo. Hung a young lad out to dry but allows senior pro’s to turn in dogshit performances every game and stay on the whole 90 minutes.
And he is lost, as he doesn’t know the answer presently.
If you’re on a roadway, and you’re lost as to where to turn, that doesn’t mean that you won’t eventually find your way. It just means that, at the moment, you’re lost.
He won the title first season. That buys a lot of patience. We have a fantastic array of talent. It hasn’t found its level yet, for various reasons, but we’ve every right to expect more to come. The new team is not fully built either. It needs work in central defence, a Salah replacement, and probably a deep lying midfielder.
I understand that, and I totally get the criticism. The criticism is par for the course.
But we’re now starting to see the ‘I hate him and I want him fucking gone now’ comments, even on this forum - just a handful of comments, but said with such conviction and vitriol, that the only conclusion I think you can draw is that there are a minority of people who never wanted him, have been waiting for a dip, and him winning the league must have been a massive blow.
Something came to mind from the time shortly before we signed Slot. Someone remarked that Slot had never lost two games in a row in his coaching career, which was received very encouragingly and positively by many here. Until someone (I don’t remember who it was) raised an objection that I now consider very appropriate and good, namely… that the downside of this, of course, is that we unfortunately don’t really know how he would react in a crisis situation.
Well… now it seems like we’re going to find out. From the looks of it, he has no experience with crisis management so far, and that’s why I have my doubts.
That’s a fair response. I’m inclined to give Slot a longer leash as well, though it comes with a couple caveats.
First, while I don’t need to see the final product, I do need to see progress towards it. We’ve been seeing the same issues over and over again. That needs to be worked out. We need to find solidity and for fucks’ sake, we need to learn how to defend set pieces.
Second, that the players remain strong, together, positive, and motivated. I don’t want to see a series of leaks which imply that Slot has lost the trust or the respect of his players. I don’t want to see division and finger pointing.
The latter issue tends to sink managers when there is a sustained run of poor form. Fortunately, we have a lot of hardworking professionals and upstanding characters and leaders, so I’m hopeful that they’ll keep things in check as Slot works through the solutions.
