Looks good. Swap Frimpong for Bradley though.
I’d give Mo a run in that formation ahead of Isak.
Neither are Liverpool standard Bradley finished last season terribly and its carried into this.
My concern would be our forwards pressing (or lack thereof) the oppositions defense and midfield with this current set up.
Why? What reason is there to think any of them wont do it well, or wont do it at all?
It’s really the only thing that makes sense when you add the fact that it gets £300m+ worth of new signings in the team.
yep,
thats my team, however Salah over Isak right now and up until the Afcon.
form and fitness disclaimer attached
Laughing out loud at the idea of a “Liverpool standard” right-back.
It’s been a shitshow since Finnan. Arbeloa at a push.
Even last season I saw 442 diamond as the natural progression. It’s difficult to play due to the hypothetical space centrally and on the wings.
The thing is it morphs so easily into that 4222 that Slot seems to like so much, which is I think a Dutch favourite on narrow pitches.
It suits all of our forwards except Isak very well. I’m still baffled by the Isak move not knowing anything about him and from what I’ve seen I don’t see how he fits. So I’m hoping he starts showing me his worth.
Still our squad looks unprepared for the physicality of the EPL. Our challenges in general are very weak if we challenge at all so formation doesn’t make any difference untill we sort out the more important stuff like, player roles, communication, commitment and marking.
So thats it sorted then lads?
442 diamond.
I’m going to give Arne a text to change things to this.
I’ll let you know what he says.
BTW…
I think this is the way to go. ATM I’d have Curtis ahead of MacAllister.
I have a bit of PTSD regarding diamonds and 3 at the back. Brendan Rodgers and short term solutions… If that is the preferred and obvious solution regarding the skillsets of our players then I hope it’s a long term thing.
That would be a painful watch.
I don’t want Salah receiving the ball anywhere in our half.
He wouldn’t even want to play that role.
If ii really is the preferred and obvious solution for the skillsets of our players I kinda wonder why we haven’t been doing this from the start.
Because a formation isn’t a tactic. It’s the tactics that need looking at.
A formation is just a way of looking at the players attributes and placing them in a role. Once out on the pitch they need to operate in a coherent system, this is where imo we need fixing.
For example many go on about how teams hit us with long balls. A formation doesn’t solve this coherent pressing or winning the header and more importantly the second ball after are the ways to deal with this. We do neither!
A formation is just something that looks pretty on paper!
Exactly.
Btw I knew you knew this, however it’s something many will throw out as it’s easy to do, looks pretty and intelligent. Just doesn’t solve anything.
During a game where you have good players all over the pitch morphing should be a given. It’s the effort and understanding that makes the difference.
I always say that formation changes from 4 to 3 at the back or especially to a diamond are incredibly rare compared to how much the football public asks for it when things aren’t going well.
Defensively, yeah you’re not wrong!
Indded. But the second they get the chance to find someone they identify as better, they’ll be ruthless.
My first reflex was to vote no, he won’t survive until Christmas. But upon reflection, he has a chance to last even if results don’t pick up until then, because fsg and the two upstairs guys will need time to identify someone better. And in any case, they will take that necessary time.
Of course, results can start improving until Christmas. ![]()
Agree with this. As I said elsewhere, I haven’t seen the recent games live, but one single stat is telling: in our lost league games, our lads always ran less than the opposition. Only the Chelsea game was more or less on par. In all others, the difference is clear.
This tells us that there is something wrong, either in regards to the physical preparation for these games, or mentally. Under Klopp, this wouldn’t have been tolerated for very long. But I haven’t yet seen Slot singling this out as a problem?
