assuming they ar Diaz stats?
Doaz was a lot closer to Sadio than Cody in his manner on the pitch
Oops sorry that was Gakpo Vs Mane stats
I am more excited to watch Mane, that intensity is always there but in terms of output, it’s not a huge drop to be fair to Gakpo. It just seems like it optics wise
Manè was a very special player and I was very sad when he left. The great thing about him is you just didn’t have a clue what he was going to do when on the ball. This meant defenders stood off him.
We have not been able to replace what he offered. Neither Diaz nor Gakpo come/came to his ankles, it was a massive drop off on the left.
And when you talk about pressing from the front, Mané would start with the opposition keeper. Force them to make a suboptimal kick from the back.
You make a fair point. If results continue as they have in recent games it may be imperative to change manager sooner rather than later. However, it would presumably cost us in compensation and there is a risk that things could get even worse. Look at Utd. I’m prepared to wait and see what happens. If the relegation zone beckons then I don’t think many would argue against a change, but we’re not there yet.
I loved his explosive pace, very hard for a defender to stop
Slot often uses phrases like the opponent presses with their #7 and #11, the #10 and #9 or whatever other combination.
And he got a lot of praise last season for adapting our build up also taking the opponent’s press (if they do even press) in calculation.
Everyone knows he doesn’t want to say that the opponent presses with a few players, but that it’s their first move.
There are different types of pressing also.
That is the danger of statistics like that. They do not tell you whether the player often scored the important 1-0 or the winning goal.
Some players almost always score the 3 or 4 nil, others the first example.
It’s about the standard of competition as well. Look at Mane vs Gakpo in the premier league or the Champions league.
Mane scored (quite a lot) more whilst being a much, much better team player.
There’s no comparison between the two and it’s not just a case of ‘optics’, the difference in quality is enormous.
Do you really want to wait till then?? Relegation???That will be too late to salvage any UCL places…
Ok, who do you bring in and how are you going to turn things around?
Nobody is saying that.
There were many games where Mane was both our best attacker and best defender. One of my favourite LFC players ever
Really?!
Yeah.
It’s an argument that a few people have been making, me included. But at no point has anyone said (as far as I can see) that players are being pushed on him against his will.
There is a transfer strategy, and Slot is obviously a voice in that discussion. But he is certainly not the only voice. And he might not even be the most important one.
agree
but i find it interesting thier stats are so close
never would have guessed that
Why are we even comparing Mane’s last two seasons at the club with Gakpo’s previous two, there’s like 7 years’ difference between them and there was also Diaz in between (or together with Gakpo last season) them?
And it’s not correct, also depends on whether you count penalties won as assists or not. I think transfermarkt counts them as assists, but some other sites don’t.
Goal involvements Mane (2020-2022): 58 with penalties won, 53 without.
Goal involvements Gakpo (2023-2025): 48 with penalties won, 46 without.

They’re not really.
Just to take one - Mane a goal every 181 minutes in the Premier League, Gakpo every 214. That includes Mane’s time at Southampton which was slightly less impressive.
Mane’s 20-21 season was probably the worst he’s played here, he was huffing and puffing like Joe Cole after he caught covid. Gakpo’s are inflated by the league cup over those two seasons. And Mane’s still ahead.
Still, yeah, not that close really, not in the competitions that matter. Mane’s worst premier league goal return equals Gakpo’s best.
