Arne Slot - Head Coach

@David_Ornstein

: Liverpool remain fully committed to Mohamed Salah and his contract, which runs until 2027. The club view the current situation as temporary and believe it can still be turned around. At this stage, they are not planning for his departure or exploring January transfer options to replace him.

No no, he’s totally still in our plans. No we wont take that cut price offer because he is totally still in our plans, and any way you should know El Illal have already offered us 20m more, but not that its relevant because we’re ignoring that because he is not for sale because hes totally in our plans.

This is perhaps better suited for another thread but I keep coming back to discussions regarding Liverpool signing stars or well established players, whatever you want to call them - they just don’t seem to work here for multiple reasons. It’s almost like a player has to be brought up in a certain way to thrive here - and stay injury free!

That said, I don’t think the club just threw away all that money - if there’s one transfer that could see them accused of a sort of football arrogance, it’s Isak’s but we still needed two centre forwards. Maybe FSG thought that the time was right for Liverpool to take that step forward and be looked at the same way people look at Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern etc.

The more I’m seeing what’s going on this season, the more I think it’s the finances that dictated all those decisions. I won’t be surprised to see Salah sold in January and Gakpo sold in 2027, when he would have had only one year remaining on his contract if I’m not mistaken.

I think the main issue what that all of these transfers were done within one transfer window instead of being spread to two summer windows. We’re still suffering from that disconnect and lack of off-the-pitch leadership that emerged in Klopp’s final years. Whether Slot manages to turn things around is another thing but this mess is not of his own making - though I expect that he will be the one to pay the price for such poor state of team affairs.

It worth bearing in mind there is a World Cup next summer, and always makes for a tricky transfer window.

It might be that it’s was a calculated decision to do two summers worth of business in one year.

I tend to forget that but I was actually aiming at last year’s summer window. Imagine getting some of these transfers done then (I’m referring to positions, not to exact names) - that would have smoothened the process of restructuring the squad, in my opinion, though no one can tell if we would have won the title, like no one can tell if we wouldn’t have been this dismal now.

In that case, business considerations would have overtaken footballing ones, and those about team chemistry. That would be very poor.

Thanks for taking the focus off me!!! Your sacrifice is appreciated…

Ah, I get it now. A smart move from everyone involved to take the heat off Isak. :+1::joy:

Not sure how dependable @marca news on Real Madrid is, but its reporting that a decisoion has been made to fire alonso if madrid lose to city on wednesday. makes no sense with them leading the league

He is not clueless however he has obviously has/hasn’t done something and we are now in this mess.
It cant be that all the players have collectively fallen off a cliff. Some of them maybe, just not enough to get us where we are, AND still having them play.

As it has been pointed out, the fall started happening last year.

They aren’t. They are four points behind Barca with not even half of the season gone. That’s a sacking offence at the Bernabeu

As I understand it, the pressure on Alonso is coming from the players / dressing room. The players aren’t keen on defensive duties and video analysis, etc.

damn…

would you take Alonso if he becomes available?

No question, gladly right away. But I’m afraid he’ll need some time off before starting a new job.
