We’re going to have to be patient. At this point things have improved since the capitulations of the autumn. We’re also now getting a bit of luck, but the hoodoo can still come to haunt us. But after what we’ve been through 4th at New Year is better than I had expected at bonfire night. The club has had six months through the mill, and still needs additions to the first team. No one is in a position to call time or otherwise on Slot quite just yet, but having done so myself, in that bad period, it’s understandable some fans do feel this way. but we are just going to have to wait. This would have been known to be a transition season within the club, it’s not as if they could have let us know that in advance is it? This is all mostly emotional shock from the fall from being dominant under Klopp. It’s 10yrs since the club felt like this.
Im now more inclined to think Slot might stabilise us and return us to competitiveness, but it’s going to depend on who he can bring in Jan. We need a CB, winger, and a Dm in my view. It’s going to be a chewy season.
I didn’t say all match going fans are behind him. I hear dissenting voices in the ground and outside it but they’re in the minority and the last game I went to was Nottingham forest which was truly dreadful.
I’ll be at the Leeds game on new years day. Maybe the mood in anfield has changed since the forest game but I guess I’ll find out.
I thought Chiesa was decent too, especially given the lack of time he’s had on the pitch. He showcased how smart he is with several runs and passes and chased back to harry opponents. Put a big effort in and just needs more time. I don;t think Slot will have been disappointed at all. Gave him 60mins which is what you would expect.
If someone questions the quality of work we got done in pre-season given everything that had happened then I think that is reasonable, but the issue I was responding to was that we lost critical time, which just isn’t true.
FWIW though if the quality of our pre-season suffered I think that is far more likely to show up in our tactical execution than our physical fitness, and it is the latter than has become the conventional wisdom over the last week or so that is hurting us.
The biggest issue with Endo and Chiesa is that they are taking up two foreign spots and thus limiting what we can do in the market. Slot obviously doesn’t really want to use them, and when they do play they look way below the level we need, even from a back up. They should have been moved on this summer.
