Well, it obviously wouldn’t be his first job after Liverpool, but eventually I wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn up at a top ten club.
This is what I said 3 week ago.
United have gone on to get 9 points from 3 games, we have gotten 3 points. We now sit 6th, equal on points to Brentford in 7th.
At this point I will be surprised if he lasts the season. I can see them putting in Gerard as interim if Alonso is not ready yet.
Well, it has been coming, right?
Alonso in as Manger, with Gerrard as Assistant, is what Ive been told, is in place for next season.
I don’t think they’ll go with the interim option, even if we get more bad results.
I feel it’s either Slot or a new permanent head coach at the (or near the) end of the season.
Gerrard as Assistant
Why would Gerrard do that???
Because he has discovered he is not a manager but a coach, but he will bring the gravity which we sorely miss right now. And, more so, he loves the club dearly. He’ll want some direct involvement Im sure, I just think he knows the manager role is too big for him. Its not as if hes bursting for other manager roles is it.
Last 20 PL games saw this club had 6 wins, 6 draws and 8 defeats. And some posters here thinks that we are going to win the UCL or by some luck get into top 5???
24 points over 20 games which is 1.2 PPG. Multiply it by 13 games left, you get an additional 15 points that takes our tally to 54 points.
Put it to the 24/25 season, that is not even conference league level. Put it in 23/24 season, no European involvement at all.
Because he has discovered he is not a manager but a coach
I really hope so!
Feels somewhat underwhelming unless both have agreed.

High speed train wreck.
If Slot gets sacked, 100% chance he’ll get back here. Probably in a top 6 job, even. I know Spurs wanted him before they hired Ange. One of these clubs will want a title-winning manager.
It might not be right away - though Spurs could leap to appoint him if they sack Frank. He could go to a mid-table side like Palace at first. Or he’ll take the Ajax job.
But he will find an opportunity. He’s not a bad manager.
We are at risk of that, yeah, look at how Arsenal and Untied fared after Wenger and Fergie.
Why wouldn’t he? Gerrard is bored. He’d love to be an assistant if he could.
We are 5 points behind a United team that were a parody of a top team just a few months ago, one that were behind us and sacked their manager (big hint). Slot’s lost it months ago and the the team is sleepwalking it’s way to an ignominious season. Every time there is a decent result it’s a ‘corner turned’. We’ve literally morphed into what we used to laugh at; the team that rival fans want to win a certain game here and there so that the manager gets a release of pressure and gets more time. It’s maddening
24 points from the last 20 is not poor form, it’s what we’ve become. Win 1, draw 3, start banging on about finding out way and then lose, rinse and repeat. It’s shit, end of the story. Once again we have posters saying players look gassed. Well, fuck, I’ve been saying the conditioning is off all season and that’s management thing, they look lost and that’s a coaching issue and they decided to swan off a bit last week and that’s definitely something Slot has form for. He’s utterly not fit for the job. He’s won the league and kudos to him, nobody can ever take that away, but having done that it can’t be a millstone around the Club’s neck either.
I don’t see any benefit of keeping him at this point. Hope we could turn things around now is like trying the same thing 100 times and just praying a different result happens. Nah, it’s not happening. All the belief is gone.
Why on earth would anyone want Gerrard near the coaching staff?
What has he done in his coaching career to warrant it?
If Alonso comes in, let him bring his own people.
If that were to happen then we would miss out on all the coaches who will or might be available post-World Cup. It’s not only Alonso who’ll be looking for a job; there’s Tuchel, Pottechino and even Carlo Ancelotti plus others who might be looking to change clubs.
A decision has to made at the end of the season, if not before. Personally, I think they’ll chicken out of actually sacking him and will instead go the ‘construvtive dismissal’ route. Like @Mascot said, Slot will be expecting a contract renewal and when he doesn’t get one I think he’ll see the writing on the wall and will leave ‘by mutual consent’.
We have 10 days between our next two league games (with the FA Cup in between). Just saying…

The coaching staff he is plenty qualified for. He’s done his badges, worked at as a youth coach here then went and had a good spell at Rangers before struggling at Villa. His CV is better than most coaches.
Not wanting him as our manager I understand but he has fair potential to be a first team coach of some sort.
Apologies as I’m just reading through these and haven’t gone further than this post here so if this had been said just ignore it.
When we announced Slot we were told that we had searched for a manager/first team coach who played in an extremely similar style as Klopp did. That was the remit.
It’s basically what you hear from most sporting directors - they know the style of football they want played and so choose the manager to implement it. That way if something happens like Klopp leaves or Slot quits, etc then when we bring in the replacement we aren’t starting a whole new project from scratch (just look at down the road since Fergie left. How many new starts and new rebuilds have they had?).
Last season this looked to be exactly the case. Yes, it was more controlled and less gung ho at times but by in large we were still playing in a style that the players had been used to for years. That aligned with what we were told about the style of play we’d see with Slot coming in and Hughes, Edwards or whoever seemed to be proven correct.
However if continuity was the plan then why so many changes this year?
And I’m not just talking about incoming and outgoing players. Slot obviously has decided against using the style we played last season (which was the reason given as to why we went for him and also reportedly did things like cut off talks with Amorim as soon as he indicated he was intent on playing his system and not the one our Club wanted played).
For example Grav was one of our major success stories last year when he was moved to a 6 instead of an 8. Yet this year he is playing far more attacking and helping leave open spaces for teams to walk through our midfield.
I could go on but since you’re referring to when we were looking at managers to replace Klopp and we were told that one of the main issues was to keep the playing style similar then if I was Hughes, Edwards or Hogan I’d be wondering just exactly why we’ve thrown out that style that they wanted and that one where the players knew their roles and instead now we take to the pitch each week looking like a Rodgers team post-Suarez who almost weekly looked like a team that had never played together before.
So yes, if I’m one of the decision makers I would be wondering what happened to the continuity that we had spoken about because the tactics, the in game management, the way subs are used and the use of the squad as a whole have not been adequate all season.
