Arne Slot - Head Coach

Quansah… solid but I don’t see how he improves us after Jacquet and Leoni.

Morton again solid… succeeding in Ligue 1 is no proof of success at a higher level though.

Plus, I think our aim is higher than solid.

Highly questionable whether Morton would be sprinting back to Liverpool to be 4th choice or whatever. While Lyon are battling and possibly about to return to the CL. Smartest for him would be to continue like this. Question also whether it’s the right level for us.

And as for Lloyd Kelly, I do think we might eye a hybrid type of defender soon, but Kelly has had some really poor reactions lately, albeit in not an amazing Juve side.

It’s a strange career, a friend of mine told me lately he thinks he’s overrated and must have very good agents who are doing their best to force him a bit everywhere due to the fact he’s left footed, can play two positions and is English. He’ll be 28 later this year and never even got an England call up.

Really? Some might say we’re lucky to be 6th given we’ve been shite for 12 months and a clown-show all over the pitch all season.

I wonder if Slot has had this fellow Dutchman around for tea quite often - Would explain quite a lot me thinks…!!!
We should remember him for his criticism of Jurgen’s methods.

Raymond Verheijen: I Googled him, so see below

The “Dutch guy” is
Raymond Verheijen
, a fitness coach and consultant who became infamous among Liverpool fans for his persistent criticism of Jürgen Klopp’s training methods.

Key Details of the Feud

  • The Claim :

Verheijen

repeatedly argued that Klopp’s high-intensity pressing style and “outdated” pre-season training methods were responsible for Liverpool’s injury crises, specifically citing a spate of hamstring injuries during Klopp’s early tenure.

  • “Some Dutch Guy”: During a 2016 press conference regarding a congested Christmas fixture list, Klopp dismissed the criticism, stating: “We play two games in 48 hours… there will be injuries and then some Dutch guy will say things”.

  • The “Pancake” Comment :

Verheijen

responded to Klopp’s dismissal by calling him a “pancake” in an interview with Dutch media, though he claimed he wasn’t making it personal but rather attacking Klopp’s “flaws in periodisation”.

Verheijen

’s Background

  • Expertise: He is a specialist in football periodisation (the systematic planning of physical training) and has worked as a consultant for clubs like Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester City, as well as several national teams.

  • Reputation: Often dubbed “Raymond the Twitter Egg” by fans due to his former profile picture, he is known for predicting “injury phases” for teams with high-intensity playing styles.

  • Recent Stance: In 2024, Verheijen praised Klopp’s successor, Arne Slot, noting that Slot has a more “football-specific approach” that he believes is superior to Klopp’s earlier methods.

It’s almost as if everyone around us is as shit as we are.

The league table doesn’t lie, we’ll see where we are at the end, which is the most important.

But what are the likes of Tottenham then if we are shit.

Exactly this.

I listened to it earlier, right up to that point. When he said we were going to press high etc, I turned it off.

I can’t take it anymore. It’s starting to do my head in.

Edit

I mean, I don’t need to see it in a color graphic; we see how it happens in every game, or rather, we see how it doesn’t happen.

Quansah is a homegrown hybrid defender who can play both RB and RCB - thus a perfect Gomez replacement. And he will possess a full year of top-flight football experience that he never had in previous seasons - so he will be more match ready than Leoni who just got a very bad ACL injury. There is a real possibility that Leoni may permanently lose 25% of his potential or worse. Hey, and Konate can still leave this summer as well - and I’d rather buy Quansah over say, Mickey van de Ven.

As for Morton, we totally lacks a player with a similar profile to him - an actual defensive midfielder who can pass the ball forward. Without CL football, we will likely lose out Anderson to City and Wharton to United or Real. So he is an option that should be considered, especially if Jones also leaves. He is playing at a much higher level than Nyoni at the moment, and Bajcetic is always injured. As for Ligue I, we just dropped €60m to buy a CB there, right?

Don’t forget that we are already very close to miss the homegrown quota, and Gomez and Jones very likely leave this summer, especially Gomez.

Spot on, both of these apply for me, I do also think they will consider themselvesy wider view from the fans perspective and what the feeling is from march going fans as a negative atmosphere isn’t good for no one.

I don’t think he can play Right Back mate.

If we win the CL and finsh 8th, not that I think we will do either, I do hope for the 1st, then I think it will be the same as Spurs and Ange, as the PL is the bread and butter.

From watching our games, it feels like we have the most uncoordinated and easy to play through press compared to our opposition, who attempt to play a pressing style.

Im gonna say what you been thinking but wont say @Sportbilly1966. We are not a well coached team. We are outplayed by the weakest and the worst. Talent is not our problem, coaching is

Why use only 7 words when an 1000 essay says the same :squinting_face_with_tongue:

I do like to point to reasons why I think what you say!

Go on then, give us the thesis…

It’s feeling to me very much like Kenny’s final season. The disappointment was less about results but that over the full season any evidence of us having solved what was causing our malaise was immediately extinguished in the next game.

When people say they are writing this season off, it’s not because the point gap is too big. It’s because this side has given us absolutely no reason to believe it’s capable of going from what if it’s been to one is good enough to close that gap.

How have we become such a soft touch and so poor tactically and ineffective in breaking down teams, whilst having a soft underbelly?

For me most of the above can be solved with good coaching and conditioning.

Apart from brain farts, most of our issues lay at Arne’s feet, he sets the tactics, shape of the team and team selection, he has to help inspire players and provide a platform to be successful.

I hate that I am of the mind that Arne should go as I don’t want us to be that team, but lets not do the same as Man U and do what they did with Ten Hag.

“I don’t like comparing ourselves to them, but I just don’t feel confident in Arne, nothing against him, I always want our players, coaches and team to be a success.”.…yep looks like you DID SAY IT!!
