Specsavers sponsor Scottish Referees. It doesn’t seem to help much.
Yeah, and it worked so well at first.
Not if no top option is available right now. Then you stick with what you have until a target becomes available , and that’s what fsg are obviously doing.
And that is not a given..haha
So we need to hire a coach that has a degree in psychology and motivation now???
If Alonso like Klopp has said he wants to wait, then I’d wait, if there was someone in the back room staff that could step up like a Milner or Lallana who were doing badges I would consider that as a short term option but there isn’t. The club aren’t being relegated and if the higher ups are fine with none CL qualification then thats fine, just don’t use it as an excuse.
Nothing about that description is a “unicorn” though. It’s just a core responsibility of the job.
We have seen umpteen times that a coherent, cohesive team has its effectiveness amplified beyond that of an incoherent assemblage of more individually talented players. And the reality is that you cannot rely on every player’s internal, intrinsic motivation. You have to be able to manage people in order to elevate the group.
Mate wants Gerrard in for the rest of the season, and whilst im against him being made manager for next season, i do get the point of his that it would be a boost for the short term, and actually do think it could work for the rest of the season.
I think most of us have seen this for a while, though you can always hope, but personally don’t think there’s any need for vitriol against Arne. I like him, maybe he’s a bit stubborn (many managers are) and some of his interviews are a bit unfortunate, maybe his man managment isn’t the best, but it’s not like he’s a massive arsehole.
Yeah, I genuinely feel for him. He isnt just failing, but he is failing in a way he hasnt before and so it is hitting at his very perception of himself and his capabilities. He is learning this in real time in a very public spotlight. Again, that is what the money is for, but there is also a human on the other side of it.
I think he could be useful but not as head coach, not even for the rest of the season.
yep no more slot halftime chats for one
well said @Limiescouse, well said…
Stats without the emotion:
All in-season competitions
Klopp 20/21
28W 12D 12L
1.846 points per game
Klopp 22/23
25W 12D 14L
1.706 points per game
Slot 25/26
24W 6D 13L
1.814 points per game
I expect to get ratioed to fuckery for posting such blasphemy. Or ignored /put on ignore. Bring it.
If you’ve read this far, my take (again without emotion), is that it’s not so much the results. Above, you can see they are not as bad as the headlines suggest. It’s only Slot’s two recent losses that for the first time crept him under Klopp’s 21/22 season.
The issue for me is the lack of improvement as we approach the end of the year that has sealed the deal for Slot. I think he’s a dead man walking.
If we are pinning our hopes to Xabi, I think we ought to look back at his performances at each of his previous clubs. Yes he has shown her can put a fantastic season together, but he’s often left a club following a poor year and got offside with his players (I’m not taking about RM) so I personally am not looking to him as the saviour. And that up and down season to season form is what we want to give Arne the boot for isn’t it?
I think we should be looking further afield.
who did you have in mind?
When Klopp left and Slot won in his first season, I think some of us took for granted just how good Klopp had been over those 7–8 years, the consistency, the relentless fitness levels, and the passion no matter who was on the pitch. There’s that saying: you don’t truly appreciate something until it’s gone. The funny thing is Klopp never claimed to be some brilliant tactician. In fact, he often said the opposite. But what he did know how to do was drag the opposition down to his level, impose the intensity of his game on them, and then kill them with it. It sounds simple when you say it like that, but doing it consistently over so many years speaks volumes about the man and his abilities.
It’s more that I don’t think it would be fair to see a changeover of Xabi to be seen as the equivalent of Bodgeman to Klopp. That’s asking too much. I think Xabi is fine. I don’t think the body of evidence is that he’s brilliant, and I hope we look at all options and not settle on Xabi because he’s a warm body, played for the club before and is available.
He finished 1st and then 2nd at Bayer Leverkusen and has only managed Real Sociedad B other than Real who are now talking about having an issue with another manager, so I’m not sure where this body of evidence how his clubs have tailed off is.
Considering they are 11pts off 2nd in a one team league this season.
he’s often left a club following a poor year
How often?
If we are pinning our hopes to Xabi, I think we ought to look back at his performances at each of his previous clubs.
It’s difficult to compare, because his first stint was with Real Sociopath reserves and Real Madrid is a bit of a poisoned chalice.
In his first year at Bayer Levekusen he managed to turn them around from a team who looked like they would be relegated to one that qualified for Europe.
His second season was remarkable and the only game he lost was the Europa Cup Final. However, many of those victories and draws were seat-of-the-pants affairs with goals far into stoppage time. In fairness, thrilling to watch for a neutral.
His third season wasn’t too bad: second in the league and semis of the cup. 6th in the Champions League and knocked out by Bayern in the round of 16.
It was a pretty decent three year stint, but I do think that our fans imagining him to be the return of the Messiah are probably going to be disappointed.
