Arne Slot Signs New Contract with Liverpool FC

Liverpool Football Club is delighted to announce Arne Slot has signed a new two-year contract extension to continue his commitment to the Club.

The deal means the head coach will remain at the helm of the Reds beyond the expiry of his previous deal, which was set to end in 2027.

Assistants Sipke Hulshoff and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have also put pen to paper on new terms, mirroring those of Slot and reaffirming their dedication to the project.

The Netherlands-born coach arrived at LFC after three highly successful seasons with Feyenoord, during which he led them to the league title in 2023 and was named Eredivisie Manager of the Year on two occasions.

Arne continued this success by winning a Club record-equalling twentieth English league title in his first season at Anfield.

During Arne's tenure at Anfield, his management team has seen changes with John Heitinga leaving as assistant coach in May 2025, as well as big player ins and outs in the 2025 summer transfer window. Yet Arne's professionalism and work ethic has never withered.

When asked by LiverpoolFC.com about his new deal, the Dutchman said:

"It's been the proudest time of my career to be head coach of Liverpool, and I am delighted to continue my journey with this club and its people."

In a joint Fenway Sports Group statement, Principal Owner John W Henry, Chairman Tom Werner, CEO of Football Michael Edwards, CEO of FSG International Billy Hogan and Club Sporting Director Richard Hughes said:

"It’s always hard to find the right words to adequately reflect Arne’s importance and contribution to our Club, but today’s announcement really does speak for itself."

"What our latest agreement gives us, across the organisation, is an opportunity to benefit from continuity, particularly in terms of renewals, whilst retaining and, where possible, enhancing our keen focus on refreshing and reinvigorating at all times."

“Arne wanting to make our future as bright as our present is a big statement. We cannot rest or consolidate. We have to think at all times about improvement and we are now able to do this in the knowledge that we have retained a head coach who not only shares our vision and ambition, but remains determined to deliver it."

“For these reasons and many more, it is beyond thrilling to know Arne Slot will continue to lead us into this new era.”

It missed a beat by not going for the “we’ve allowed to let him stay but only as long as he fires at least one of his coaches” bit.

I forgot it was April’s fools. I now have to back to everything that happened today and reevaluate.

“If underlying issues are resolved…” was the phrase that jumped out to me. What underlying issues? And what is the marker to indicate said issues have been resolved?

It’s a generally supportive statement about Slot, which is exactly what I would expect from Joyce, who is so close to the club.

It doesn’t persuade me that Slot will be here next season though. I see a parting of the ways after an end of season review. I could be wrong, but I think the club would be inviting a lot of trouble next season if Slot is retained. The first sign of a bad game or two would bring an overreaction, due to many fans wanting him gone. He wouldn’t get a proper reset after this season, and it would all be brought up quickly if we show any signs of struggle next season.

I think that retaining his services would put us all on tenterhooks, and that’s no way to go into next season. Just my opinion.

I did. I’ve been saying it for at least 3 seasons

I think I’ve been saying the club will see how the season concludes if it continues as it is they will end it. If something picks up they will re-evaluate it’s effectively a vote of confidence with we expect to see better.

That’s why I was annoyed about his disrespectful comments about Slot. He should have kept quiet as he should have been sacked for failing to qualify to the WC. Despite playing in a meaningless match he flogged both our players senselessly.

Perhaps it was a misunderstanding on the national coach’s part - who interpreted the comments as a demand rather than a polite request?

Regardless, I don’t have a problem with the coach playing the players. They get so little time with them its only fair they use them when they can. Arne has more opportunity to rest them, if he doesn’t then why should the national coach do so?

National team exposure can help boost a players profile and with it money for the club, so there can be some financial benefits to it too.

Slot should be sacked just on the fact he was the only manager who wouldnt beat Tudor - who was so bad he was sacked after just 40 odd days.

Tudor beat Simeone (in one leg), to be fair.

Again, I’d take everything coming out of FSG with respect to Slot with a grain of salt. They’re going to publicly back him up until the moment they decide to sack him. There is no benefit to saying “we’ll see” while we’re still competing on three fronts, especially if there’s even a small chance that they’ll keep him.

The only way I’d believe that they’re 100% behind Slot is if they offer him an extension. That they haven’t tells me far more than their public posturing through Joyce/Pearce.

Simeone beaten by Tudor and Slot in the same season

I can a huge issue brewing in how many fans are utterly invested in Slot being sacked. To the the point of claiming a statement saying that FSG are behind him somehow means the opposite of the message it’s saying.

It’s possible that it’s the case. It’s also possible that FSG mean exactly what they say, in which case what are you all going to when he is on tje touchline for the first game of next season?

Demand that Gakpo cuts in and shoot?

Support Liverpool, like supporters always do? What are you going to do? Tell everyone they were wrong?
If Slot is here its because of some success this season, welded to his league title. Most of us respect his success but question the fall off this season, and that is acceptable amongst a fan base.
Its getting tiresome with you to be honest, and you are better than that qustion… I don’t like the lumping all opinions into two boxes, pro or anti Arne. Its a bit more complex than that.

Edit:
After Spurs, after Wolves, after Burnley etc I was moving towards Slot going. Let’s be honest, they were depressing results with fuck all football attached.
But I am 100% looking forward to Saturday, to supporting my team, our team. Your question is an insult to Liverpool supporters. You really do know better.
