On one hand, I understand why a new manager would want nothing to do with the PSG disaster that looks likely. But if a new manager had been brought in before now, there would not have been any pressure on him to come out of this with anything positive on such short notice. The only material thing they can still impact is a top 5 finish, but the room for error there gets smaller with each passing day.
But how much of the squad weakness and imbalance is on Slot? How much input did he have? We do not know.
Despite failure at Real Madrid I like what Alonso did there. He pushed the collective over the individual. Everyone had to play a part. That’s what we need.
Yes they gambled on it earlier in the season, now they cant do jack, other than try steer the titanic around the berg.
I still think an interim could get more out of this team than Slot.
Have decided this is the worst period Ive seen from FSG, a succession of bad decisions and a failure to react leaves us close to rock bottom.
Others lead recruitment, at the same time I don’t believe that any player has been bought or sold without Slots explicit support.
It’s depressing to see how quickly a decade of progress has been undone. From doubters to believers to doubters again.
Yeah always harder to climb, than to fall
Basically seems like
Arne Slot has definitely
Lost the sentiment in the
Dressing room, which is sad.
Feels like the time has come to
Recruit a new manager
And move on from this. Might seem
Unfair, but feels like its the right thing to
Do and either step down and be removed.
@ubermick after every sentiment and opinion on Slot has been expressed multiple times, you’ve gone for prose?
Depressing defeats
Same old excuse from the boss
Won’t placate the fans
Thought I’d try haiku. I’m not very good at it.
It is totally normal for highly competent, self-confident people in senior leadership positions to decide they are no longer the right person for their job and walk away. The thing with people like that is they will back themselves to succeed in their next opportunity and will be incentivized to find and exit that suits all parties before their lack of fit for this role and this time starts becoming a stain on their reputation that makes getting the next shot harder. It’s also true that it’s just shit having to show up for work every day in a role where you no longer believe you can have the impact that your self perceived talents believe you should be able to have, and will have once you find your next role that is a better fit. It is faith in themselves that allows someone to go to their boss and negotiate a mutually agreed exit
The people who hang on for dear life in a position where it isn’t working are those who are egotists not able to see the situation clearly, or clear eyed people who know theyve been promoted above their station and are going to milk the pay check as long as they can knowing they won’t get this sort of appointment again.
Agree! But, I think this is extremely rare in football. Has any manager left the job abruptly? The closest I can think of is Klopp announcing his departure at the end of the season.
If we’re talking about a decision for the end of the season I don’t think it would be considered abrupt.
In terms of managers who have done it, Conte’s exit from Spurs, Maresca’s from Chelsea and Xavi’s from Barca would all be similar to Slot accepting a “mutual agreement” termination this summer. Probably Luis Enrique’s exit from Barca as well
Dalglish is the one i can think of and that had circumstances.
Of course we were in a decent place at that point.
Didn’t Keegan accept that he simply wasn’t up to the England job and walk away?
If his departure is not announced on the last day of the season (post match interview), then he is here for the start of next year.
Yeah after the defeat to Germany at Wembley in October 2000
And if he did, with the club not having a replacement lined up, he’d be accused of dragging us down then running away from the mess he’s made with QFs still to play.
If the club had someone ready to take over then let them pull the trigger. Expecting him to go now of his own accord is fanciful. He’ll be here now until the season is done and then I expect a “mutual consent” parting of the ways.
Once your captain starts talking about players giving up it’s just a matter of time. Players have lost faith and so the change will come in the summer. Him quitting now would just put us on the back foot.
Clubs don’t generally act like that. Rodgers was sacked about 3-4 hours after the game and then some clubs wait til the week.
Cant think of anyone who has been sacked in their post match interview.
He’ll be here now until the season is done and then I expect a “mutual consent” parting of the ways.
This is my belief as well. I was not making an argument that I expect him to walk this week. I was arguing against the idea that is fanciful to consider him walking away at all.
