Michael Owen is wrong to say that. How many years we waited to win this league and to be near touching distance so soon after Jürgen left is a miracle.
My take on this @Maria - and I don’t class myself as an expert here, but too many pundits DO NOT have the basic command of the English language, to express themselves in an articulate, well versed way, that makes the relevant point to a discussion.
The employers at SKY and others, are content to just let their pundits diatribe, spew out whatever nonsense they feel like uttering… and the reason why… is I think, todays crisis/debate is yesterdays news – the games arrive thick and fast… nothing gets the span of attention it probably deserves…!
This is true, and in the constant search for an angle or a controversy it can soon produce bullshit like that above.
Mind you, it’s not only in the field of sports punditry.
My take is that the Liverpool management didn’t foresee that we would be this competitive this fast with Arne.
They had probably written this season off as one where Arne could analyse the squad and see where we were lacking (instead of doing the United way and blow up 300m on transfers for a manager first up).
Couple of incoming transfers could probably have held us in a better stead in the CL. But it is what it is. Slot winning the league with no transfers at all (won’t even count Chiesa) is a miracle.
He needs to rotate more.
So many players look goosed and they still play every week
Who exactly looked knackered today or is the just more hyperbole.
We didn’t look tired its becoming a tiresome excuse. Today was more individual errors.
Caused by tiredness?
No.
How do you know?
I’m not saying they were or weren’t, I’m not a member of the coaching or medical staff, but how can you rule it out so unequivocally? Do you have some training, or inside knowledge?
Depends what level of tiredness you are intimating they had. Players naturally tire during the game but the general agenda trying to be pushed is fatigue which is whole different animal entirely.
I’m not intimating anything. I’m just raising the question. Is it possible that the individual errors were caused by tiredness or fatigue?
As they happened in the first half, it seems unlikely that in-game tiredness was to blame, but how can we be sure that they weren’t the result of what you call fatigue?
We’re talking fatigue. Physical and mental fatigue.
Long season already. Head coach does not rotate enough. Lost a final. Crashed out of the CL after winning the League stage. All this talk about contracts of Mo, Trent, Virgil. That all can play a part.
Also, we’ve dominated the table all season but we did not dominate opponents on the pitch. Shit first halves and many games could have ended in draw or defeat.
I think he’s saying this to justify his fixed selections game after game and the fact he just doesn’t fancy his bench.
He knows what he’s doing here in the sense that he’d be inviting on more questions if he said the opposite.
We’ve have 2 transfer windows and the guy hasn’t been backed, that’s the reality of it…so we can’t purely put it on Slot, he’s under no obligation to play someone if he doesn’t feel they’re worthy as none of them were bought under his supervision, regardless of what the fans think.
Would be harsh on some of the players but hope that’s the reason why he doesn’t rotate a lot.
Maybe he doesn’t like rotation
Right now I’m not sure who people think he should be rotating.
We’re being forced into playing Kelleher. Bradley is the only half fit right back option, you don’t tend to rotate centre backs and Tsimikas does get the odd start and appearance off the bench at left back.
Then Endo is completely different to Gravenberch and clearly has a role to close games out. Jones, Mac and Szobo mainly rotate for the other two with Elliott getting bits and pieces.
Gakpo has been injured but he and Diaz do rotate. We’ve been without Jota for months and Nunez clearly isn’t rated or trusted and Salah is Salah. As for Chiesa, fuck knows why we bought him in the first place.
We can bemoan Slot not rotating more but he’s seeing these lads week in, week out. If they’re not giving him the confidence then so be it. But we do then need to find some in the summer he does want to play.
Bad day at the office but could easily have come away with a draw. Gone from counting the points gap to counting how many we need and every dropped point by Arsenal gets us a little closer irrespective of what we do.
Time to rally the troops, smash West Ham and hope Arsenal don’t get battered mid-week so they don’t go full strength again next weekend. Could be as little as five needed by this time next week.
You are right, now it’s too late. When he could rotate with greater ease, mainly when it comes to the midfield, he opted not to.
Endo could have provided some respite for Gravenberch , Chiesa for Salah, Elliott could fill in different positions and so on and so forth. There were plenty of options at his disposal. He went with the tried and trusted, which worked until the number of games started catching up with them.
But if it was really catching up with them physically wouldn’t the medical staff be telling him?
