Arteta’s comment sounds a bit to me like a man under a bit of pressure. Or at least a man who is trying to justify himself.
Win something big laddie, and you might be secure in yourself after five years and all that outlay.
Alternately, watch a humble and unassuming Slot boss it the first time of asking, while barely spending a penny.

Big question mark over Arteta if he doesn’t win anything this season… A case of do Arsenal stick or twist with him… there are only so many times they see how the following season pans out…!

I feel a bit conflicted. I find his public persona grating, but in terms of football I also find myself defending the quality of work he has done since he was hired. But even with me feeling like one of his stronger advocates I feel he is now entering Roy Evans territory - after having drastically improved them from the team he inherited, made them legitimate contenders, the “board” starts having doubts this is the guy to take the next step and even though they are not ready to sack him they stop backing him as fully as they were. Roy claims he lost credibility with the board after Collymore “failed”, with them not wanting to give him any additional money to spend on a replacement given they had already funded a british transfer record two years before on Evans’ request. At Arsenal you see a bit of uncertainty in how to manage the striker situation - spending big on Havertz, him not really definitely solving the problem, and them dithering over whether they would throw additional money at another option for a manager who seems to like Havertz there. With Edu now gone you do wonder if next summer will be a bit more difficult for everyone.

His job is not in danger but the project.
Without a trophy I doubt they they will be able to keep all their quality players (Real want Saliba?).
That would be like three steps back while trying to make one or two steps forwards every season.
Arteta doesn’t rate Tierney and he is set to leave.
Tomiyasu and White are missing big parts of the season.
Zinchenko worked as a short term solution but is shit now.
Jorginho and Partey are old and out of contract.
Trossard is also 30 already and Sterling is an 30 year old injured loan player.
