Artificial Intelligence

I can’t find a thread on this subject, despite it being one of the greatest challenges that humans have ever faced. So, I’m going to start one. It’s a scary topic, but just in case you thought it had already taken over, here’s an example of how crap it still is in March 2026. Please do not attempt this walk!

That is why they had to build Hadrian’s Wall, to separate the two of them.

TiL that Birmingham is known for the rumours of a prehistoric sea monster in nearby waterways.

I thought it was Gloucester. Which makes it believable.

Being a major artery into Wales it forms an essential front line defence

Early last year by brother was messing around with AI making “Ghibli style” pictures using pictures of friends/family - they’re cartoonish pictures that are nice/warm.

Me being me, I figured asking AI to make a Ghibli style picture of my dog taking a shit would be fun. I uploaded the offensive picture, then instead of typing ‘Ghibli’, I accidently typed “Gimli” and got this masterpiece…

I intend to print it out, frame it, and put it in the downstairs loo.

I work in software development as a product manager and for the last 18 months have been exclusively focused on AI tooling. This made me laugh. A lot

Inside Meta, a Rogue AI Agent Triggers Security Alert

A Meta agentic AI sparked a security incident by acting without permission

Maybe think twice before letting an AI take over all your tech?

OpenAI just unexpectedly shit canned Sora.

Somehow that reminds me of IRC (internet relay chat) addictions that many suffered at around the turn of the century.

They have also pulled out of the deal with Disney. They probably realised that the main use was going to be making porno-spoofs of the Disney back catalogue.

One of the arguments that’s been made by AI skeptics is that the products are good, but the cost to operate them far exceeds what anyone would be willing to pay for them once normal pricing was put into place. The suddenness of this decision makes a lot people think there is some legal issue pending, but I suspect the bigger issue is they realized that this required an enormous amount of compute for something people expect to get free and so decided to put their compute resources to other applications. But the abruptness of it is wild. I was listening to people being at a conference and their Sora generated material that they’d used the day before was no longer accessible.

Currently listening to On with Kara Swisher interview with Tristan Harris, a technology ethicist and co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology.
(Note: Be skeptical too as he is also likely promoting his movie “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist,” which explores the promises and existential risks of AI.)

One of the very rare positive report on the use of AI.

This is a really great conversation for anyone curious about OpenClaw.

This target audience is for techy people who work in software, but I think it’s accessible enough that if anyone has any curiosity about seeing what they could do with an OpenClaw assistant this would help them get started.
