Bradley BARCOLA: 2026/27

Lovren recently gave an interview, asked about Salah’s move to Trabzonspor and said he had big(ger) European clubs chasing him, but he was disappointed with their financial offers. Trabzonspor certainly sounded underwhelming at the time, but maybe he also wanted a team where he could really be the absolute star of the project and have his freedom on the pitch (not that I know much about Trabzon’s tactics), even if it meant being certain underdogs for trophies.

The thing with salah was he stopped scoring. Nothing to with age, pace or trent. These were factors in other parts of his game but he got in position so many times and missed the chance. If he scores half of his chances last season there’d be a different narrative.
Barcola will miss a shed load of chances, he is quick and younger, so therefore he is better, no?

Salah just had a bad season in front of goal.

I agree with you btw.

Which incidentally feels like what we’re missing with these 3 expensive so far underwhelming signings - someone who embraces the weight of expectations and the focus of everyone’s attention. Idioms like “taking the game by the scruff of the neck” are pretty reductive but it’s definitely in that realm. Its just more than the way they conduct themselves on the pitch and seemingly a general personality thing

I always thought Turkish clubs had quite a bit of financial firepower (or a very generous tax system?) as they often seem to pick up some of the big players who don’t either don’t get the bigger moves (i.e Victor Osimhen) or are on the way out from bigger clubs (i.e Osil)

I have no doubt they can attract big names and Salah proves that however they must really have wanted him. My impression was most felt he would end up in the Gulf.

Yeah, but it was never clear why that would be the case and I think it was just wishful thinking by some of the fanbase dreaming of a hefty pay day for the club.

I don’t think there is any evidence to suggest he wanted a move there over somewhere in Europe.

Whatever!

So basically the big clubs didn’t want him enough to pay much of a salary

He wants to play every game if possible. If he was moving for the money then he’d have stayed on his reported 400k per week with us and sat on the bench a few times more than he would like.

Jesus Christ. He’s played, what, three games after a disrupted pre-season. Is this where we are now.

Jurgen would sign players and we wouldn’t see them for four months

Sign of the times unfortunately. It’s angry old men running around accusing anyone and everyone .

I actually thought we were in the mo salah thread :joy:

There is a slight difference between an £8m Robbo from Hull and a £100m Barcola from PSG, though, tbf.

Bigger price tag means bigger expectations and less patience, like it or not.

Every high profile, reasonably expensive signing we bought under Klopp started playing immediately except for Fabs. There has been a lot mileage gained out of this trope solely because of the eventual success of a cheap punt on a LB and one CM who initially struggled to break into an already successful midfield (incidentally a job made more difficult by Klopp playing the other guy we bought that summer, for more money, in CM from day 1). It was always far more typical for him to throw expensive, important pieces in from the beginning.

Didn’t it also apply to Fabinho too?

I don’t care if you cost £0 or £200m.

I expect effort and desire. Players will have good periods and bad periods but as long as they are giving their all, price tag means nothing to me. Todays transfer market is frankly bollocks.

I guess, to an extent. He was first-choice from around this time in his first season.
