Itās interesting that this happened despite Brazil getting the criminal conviction against Bolsonaro for their Jan 6th. An important strand of the theory for how Trump was able to revive his prospects after 2020 was the inability for the system to deal with those crimes allowing potential voters to be convinced that he didnt actually do anything wrong. I wonder if the revival of Bolsonaroian politics despite the conviction changes anything about the political science perspective sin the US now.

I have no idea. My understanding is that Flavioās path to the nomination was mostly a processional after getting the endorsement from his dad and no one meaningful challenging him. Trump doesnt really work like that and so isnt going to clear the path for anyone, not least his (male) kids who doesnāt seem to respect or even particularly like.

Too early to know whether Russia are panicking because this is much more serious than an isolated case and involves some sort of genetically modified and weaponised version; or this is some sort of misinformation stunt; or a Wuhan style start of something much more serious. I expect weāll find out over the next couple of weeks

Itās a fucked up story. The containment steps are hugely concerning by themselves, but worse is they are not what you should expect from an actual plague outbreak. As awful a disease as it is untreated, it is relatively easy to treat with cheap antibiotics. You shouldnt need to be doing this if it was due to regular plague
