Car insurance law

As a very long time bald man, completely happy and at ease with it, I do still look at people gifted with a full head of hair and think, fuck me you did THAT with it

learned his defence from a Facebook group

As good a thread as any. Hired a van yesterday for 24 hours. Realised driving home at midnight that one of the headlights was out. Vehicle signout check (signed by bloke at the rental place) has lights checked ticked.

Now, I was driving a van with a headlight out so itā€™s my fault. No car places open to get a spare. Fortunately, Mr Plod didnā€™t see me and I got home safely. Would have been a very interesting conversation had I been stopped and even more interesting on handing the van back should I have got 3 points and a Ā£120 fine.

" Oh, we checked it, must have blown when you turned it on. You can see we checked it, the box is ticked and we signed it"

Hmmmmmm.

Did it come with breakdown cover? When this happened to me I called the RAC out to fix it.

Ringing the RAC to a blown bulb?

Well if the hire place supplied you with a spare bulb set and suitable tools you could fix it yourself.

Usually vehicle hire firms would prefer that you donā€™t touch the car yourself.

With the amount of potholes and traffic calming bumps in the roads these daysā€¦ bulbs and the like work loose far more often than they ever did - loose bulb = non functional

Wow.
After almost 2 years, the insurers in question Axa (who I no longer use), just sent me notification that the claim is cancelled and my NCB has reverted to maximum.
They also included a cheque for Ā£200.
