Emm… Which side of the point were you on exactly?
Whichever side takes the piss.
Careful, that probably makes you a Tory too…
Well they are taking something alright.
Soccer-UEFA bids to throw out Liverpool fans’ lawsuit over 2022 Champions League final
Story by Sam Tobin
LONDON (Reuters) - European soccer’s governing body UEFA has asked England’s High Court to throw out lawsuits brought by more 1,000 Liverpool fans who attended the 2022 Champions League final in Paris for personal injuries allegedly caused by chaos outside the stadium.
The case against UEFA and UEFA Events, which was filed last year, was brought following mayhem outside the Stade de France before the match, which was delayed for over 30 minutes.
French police were filmed using tear gas on fans, who complained of heavy-handed treatment as they were herded into pens outside the stadium.
An independent review of incidents outside the stadium found that UEFA was responsible for a “large number of near misses that nearly led to disaster” before the final, which Real Madrid won 1-0.
UEFA settled with a group of Liverpool fans in March, but a separate case being brought on behalf of around 1,200 others continues at the High Court.
At a preliminary hearing on Thursday, UEFA’s lawyers asked the court to adjourn a hearing due to take place later this month, at which UEFA will ask for the cases to be thrown out.
UEFA’s lawyer Shaheed Fatima said in court documents that the case could not continue because it will require the court “to make findings as to the lawfulness or unlawfulness … of the French state”.
Judge Edward Pepperall ruled that the hearing of UEFA’s application to end the cases should go ahead on June 27.
UEFA had initially blamed the Merseyside club’s fans for the chaos, before apologising following the release of an independent review last year.
The body later set up a refund scheme, however Real Madrid described it as “insufficient” and declined to contribute.
UEFA also began a series of measures for the next finals, including increasing the number of security officers and involving fans in the planning and execution.
Still a cunt
My thoughts exactly
That arrogant incompetent twat is such an scheming, ammoral, big liar. I remember his statements and words blaming Liverpool fans and that they are hooligans and many fans were "ticketless"for months afterwards.
It wasn’t a mistake, it was a desperate coverup to hide the mistakes the local government and police made in policing this event, where many fans were robbed and assaulted. He needed someone to blame and it was our fans.
I have a friend who lives in Paris and he is quite a piece of work by all accounts. An abuser of women, a religious bigot and homophobe, and quite possibly, deeply corrupt in his public office.
In such cases, you will always find that they want someone else to blame.
Omg! Keep at arms length and do not trust him.
My question is where does LFC club and our official supporter groups go from here?
If Dalmain thinks saying " sorry" is going to redeem himself, it is not good enough in my view. Can supporters sue him in the courts? They should get compensation from the French government.
Compensation was granted to some fans by UEFA in March last year. Not sure whether that really touched the sides.
Darmamins latest comments come in the shadow of him potentially running for PM so likely just getting his apologies out of the way. Sincere it certainly is not.
There are compensation claims still ongoing I believe… Him admitting he had it wrong all along, will certainly help, rather than hinder these cases - He is obviously a gobshite of the highest order, who knows very little of the unbreakable spirit within our fanbase. Why else would any sane person choose to unjustly ‘pick on’ Liverpool fans… Unless of course he was confident he could keep a lid on us and the noise would quieten down eventually…
Like I said, he has proved himself a bit of a knob
Dalmain picked the wrong fanbase to mess with. The supporters should sue him for ‘defamation’ grounds, if possible.
