Climate Catastrophe

If that child doesn’t survive, the only ones to blame are the parents.

She’s there with her mother in law and the kid.
Either the husband has legged it, or dumped her previously for being dumb.

Imagine believing a fictitious entity could protect you from the forces of nature at their worst

It is funny how the fundamentalists who believe in divine retribution never seem to ask themselves why God sends so many hurricanes in their direction.

Sadly my feed is currently full of climate change deniers having gone full MTG and believing that the government are manipulating the weather.

“Do not put the lord thy god to the test”

Should get on with murdering them all then as their book mandates. That’ll fix it. Oh and the Amalacites and Witches. Then everything will be fine.

The benefit of X and utterly terrifying.

BBC “But isn’t it single story?”
Reply “Yes but………”

Fuck me.

Millions (billions probably) of dollars worth of boats just sat there about to get destroyed If I could afford a boat in that area, I’d have taken a week off and gone to the Bahamas. And I don’t mean a 20ft Bayliner.

We have had same-sex marriage for over 20 years, yet no hurricanes in all that time. Very puzzling.

A lot of those boats go about 1/3rd the speed of a hurricane, and four days ago the disturbance off the east coast of Florida was in the Bahamas. You could do it, but it would not be fun sailing nor for the faint hearted. The sea right now is violent from the Yucatan Peninsula to the western Bahamas.

But the biggest factor is simply that a week ago when it was forming, the smart move would probably have been to sail to SW Florida. The first projection showing the Tampa area as a possible target of Tropical Depression 14 was Saturday morning. If you left then, you would have arrived in Nassau in the wee hours on Tuesday. However, if you took a week off every time a tropical depression formed in the Gulf with an easterly direction at any point in its path, you would probably be taking at least six weeks off every season.

When faced with the choice between boat and home, most are electing to stay close to their home.

Tampa hospital has invested in temporary surf surge protection. Looks like it held.

Well, we made it through. Thankfully we have no real damage, just a lot of clean up. We lost power at 11pm. When I woke up I was exploring to find someone open that would serve me a coffee and by the time I found one and returned home the power was back on. I am surprised by how little damage we had because it subjectively the scariest one I’ve ever had to sit through. Charlie in 2004 was a big party and I remember the bars opening downtown within minutes of it passing us, but I was without power then for about 3 weeks. I don’t know if the difference is better storm infrastructure now or sheer damn luck but after sitting through that last I really assumed we’d be in a much worse situation today.

Firstly I am glad @Limiescouse and family are all good and I hope anyone else affected, is safe and sound.
I am not a Climate change denier and although I am happy awareness has improved, action has been too slow globally, and education is still falling short. In my opinion too many people are happy to bang the climate crisis drum without actually assessing their own “footprint” installing discipline in their household. We are all guilty of Leaving lights on, not turning electronic devices off when not in use - how many IPads passed to children to keep them entertained are just left on when not in use. Why not walk to the local takeaway…oh because it is easier to get someone to drive and pick it up for us. Nb. I understand that Takeaways deliveries have been around pre-deliveroo , but rather than it be a weekend treat, people are getting their morning coffee delivered.

In response to the effect of Climate Change on Hurricanes/Tropical storm’s, how are we evaluating this?
According to Wiki Atlantic Storms, Milton is 5th overall in terms of intensity. Infact, it is the only Hurricane in the top 10 post 2007. In terms of the Strongest it lies 9th, with the Top 3 being pre-1990. 2005 seems to have been a bad year, but that was 19 years ago….
