Stay safe.
I was going to make a joke about how at least you won’t be able to jinx City’s opponents, then I remembered it’s international break fortnight.

Good luck to you Limie, and everyone else in the path, or close to the path, of this one. The trajectory seems strange, cutting across Florida and not going up through FL and into other states. Good for them, I suppose, but likely very difficult for everyone in the path. Tampa looks like it is going to be hit hard.
There is such bad faith around anything even remotely to do with government or officialdom, but it seems very clear to me that we are moving into new territory and the scale needs to be recalibrated to include Category 6 Hurricanes.
Keep consuming, everyone.
Nothing to see here.
RIP @Limiescouse
Stay safe @Limiescouse, and any other TANers in harm’s way.
Fingers crossed it drops a few levels when it hits shallower water / land.
We all like to think we are “doing our bit” to help the environment, but you do wonder how much it helps the overall picture when competing with this.
I’m ready
Seriously though. Stay safe those anywhere near this thing
Absolutely. It only goes to show that a global, coordinated effort is necessary, and that we realise as a species, that it is an emergency that threatens all of us.
The only problem is that it isn’t as salient an immediate threat as COVID was, and even then as it is with COVID, you’ll always have the true believers who think this is just some massive global conspiracy to control everyone.
They’ll continue to deny and double down.
Only the other day I came across this. I did not watch the original. We apparently will struggle to breathe and must watch out for Nuclear Warming. Wtf is that?
That is the staggering thing about the projections for this one. It will inevitably lose power, but there is a real possibility it will still have major status having crossed the peninsula. There is little doubt it will still have hurricane-level winds.

That video needs to be viewed in the context of a State that has been staggeringly irresponsible about building codes and zoning. There are large parts of Tampa that are less than 7 feet above sea level. A 15 foot surge is going to cover essentially the entire city.
China also have shown that long term planning and self interest can in itself help move the needle.
Most analyses show China has now past the point of peak coal and will increasingly start showing the benefits of their approach from the past decade.
Almost the all of the heavily populated pockets South of Tampa to Alligator Alley - Cape Coral, Ft Myers, Naples - has been built on land that would not get permission to do so with any sort of sensible planning regs.
Look, that’s socialist talk. We don’t do that here.
I think most people understand Florida is a wildly corrupt place, but I dont think many people really understand the extent of it when it comes to things like this. Local government exists here almost entirely as a pact between political connected business willing to pay for play and officials who exist for nothing more than taking a handout to rubber stamp whatever the business wants to do.
About 10 years ago there were some duplexes being built on an empty lot on my street and I got to know the developers doing it. They were a pair of brothers from Salerno who had recently moved to the US and this was their first project here. One day he was complaining to me saying that he is entirely comfortable having to pay off “the man” to get his permits approved, but had never experienced anything like it here.
If only the party of law and order was in power there, right?
Woman in Florida on the news, she has a 3 year old child, we’re staying and placing our faith in god.
Cuckoo.
