Climate Catastrophe

Stop driving. Stop flying. Eat less meat.

Three simple starting points; unfortunately, most people are too lazy/self centred to make even these basic changes.

She wasnā€™t much of a PM, but come on, fair play, you canā€™t hold the blessed Theresa entirely responsibleā€¦

So I canā€™t buy one of these?

Well Iā€™m driving less now that I donā€™t commute to work, Iā€™ve flown twice in the last 10 years and I donā€™t eat meat.

So while I do a little, I do not reflect the majority. How do you change that?

 Ha, Bloody fat fingers. :rage:

I may have stumbled onto the perfect incentive to lose some weight.

You make those things exorbitantly expensive or criminal acts.

But no government would be brave enough to do the former, let alone the latter.

Its weird cos when I present the choice meat v cheese, most carnivores would give up meat first. There must be more lolly in selling meat.

My point exactly. Somewhere along the line that HAS to happen one way or another. Just passing the buck down the line, spouting useless shite about building electric cars and cycle lanes doesnā€™t really address the issue.

Electric cars still use up enormous amounts of emissions in their manufacture, transport, etc.

And donā€™t get me started on tyresā€¦ :rage:

They also only use electric mostly generated by a gas turbine and sent to the grid.

yes youā€™re right.

itā€™s like putting down the chocolate bar because you want to lose weight but having that big piece of cheese cake because you can (somehow)

On the other hand, with wind now being the cheapest form of electrical generation, there is no reason that electric cars - which are, after all, basically batteries on wheels - cannot be driven entirely from renewables. Most grids have a problem with excess supply at night, peaks during the day, but the proliferation of energy storage has provided a mechanism to smooth that out.

Maybe, but thatā€™s a future projection, right now they are sold as green and they fucking are not. We are.

Essential reading for those who believe that just changing to electric vehicles will solve all our problems.

Unfortunately money is the only thing that matters in our society.

Fixed it for you.

And thatā€™s only because the masses have been brainwashed by the billionaires who control the media and who want everybody else to see them as their unquestioned superiors.

Thatā€™s true. We all crave for various gadgets etc. that holiday, the house and so on.

Depends where you are, really.

And unfortunately it is those people who own all the major organisations and governments who run the world.

Trump is more explicit about it - in the way he openly grifts people - but any one of them would rather put another $1m in the bank than try to do anything to help wider society. Even when the insanely rich give money to charity theyā€™re mostly only doing it for tax purposes.

I donā€™t know how we fix it. We probably canā€™t. Eat the rich.
