Yeah, and where we were there was almost nowhere to spend your money. Living in a tent, working 12+ hour days, and paid at what was at the time a very good rate, the savings added up. Six or seven tough weeks fit in nicely with being back to civilization, cash in hand, and ready for pre-season training headed toward Autumn.
I wonder about the sustainability of that plantation form though. Almost by definition we were creating a monoculture, although Northern Ontario sort of tends that way anyway.
depends on what the forest service wants the contractor to replace the forest with. they have many varietals of seedings for reforesting and I believe PRT may actually recover seeds in those regions to keep the indigenous types of trees going.

There was a guy who seemingly never got tired. Routinely plant double anyone else on the crew. Even better, he would talk to the seedlings all day. Tell them how nice the spot they were getting was, tell them he was moving a rock out of the way for them, etc.
Plant 100 a day and the rabbits and deer eat 99 of them the same night :0)
All humidity does it make the body respond as if the dry temperature was higherā¦it can make 85 feel like 100+. If itās already 120 degrees of dry heat then youāre fucked even without humidity.
Iām loving reading comments sections on news pages these days. Any climate change story is trounced upon by a hoard of people denying itās a thing. Their logic is utterly broken and every single one of them overlooks one simple fact.
The world is warming, despite whoever and whatever is responsible it will impact the earth and humanity. Not a single one of them is able to come to that conclusion.
Anyway UN saying 1.5deg is no longer possible now.

snow in Prince George area yesterday. weāre going through quite a storm right now, blew some major power lines down onto the TransCanada Hwy right in the middle of the city causing a complete traffic clusterfuck.
but normal for this time of year to be wet and blustery. thatās me in Maple Ridge. half a foot of rain coming in next 3 days
Using climate change as an excuse to go skiing every year is not working here sadly.
But to be fair, your golf ball flies a bit farther. I bombed some drives when I was out there in AZ.
So swings and roundabouts really.
Until the sweaty club flies out of your hands and a $300 driver is now in a rattlesnake infested row of bushes.

Who is going to glue themselves to my Art?
Also why donāt these people use more permanent glue like those once it sticks, they have to saw your arms off or use hot melt glueā¦ That would make their points better and earn more sympathy brownie points and make great content for their tiktok increasing their fans by millions which is all they want in the first place.
In videos from the Dutch museum posted online on Thursday, one of the men says: āHow do you feel when you see something beautiful and priceless being apparently destroyed before your very eyes?ā
āThat is that same feeling when you see the planet being destroyed,ā he adds.
I donāt approve that way of doing things, but at least, this quote allows a pathway into their thinking.
They also said this:
āThey would never defile a work of art not covered with protective glass.ā
Meanwhile, articles like the one posted by @Semmy above are very clear: our time on earth is counted if we continue our ways like we do presently. And yet, it clearly falls on deaf ears as far as governments and multinational companies are concerned, and unfortunately also on general indifference among a large majority of people who just donāt want to change their habits.
So, this situation is bound to lead to desperate wake-up calls like this one. If we, the dormant people stuck in our habits, donāt take our governments to task about climate change, if we continue to vote for selfish idiots who donāt care, if we donāt overthrow the reckless tyrants in charge a bit everywhere, then weāll all disappear very soon, along with a vast majority of the animal and vegetal species currently on earth.

I agree that earth is fucked and all of us have a part to play. We of course have to look at ourselves first as individuals, what we have done in our daily habits to save this earth. Beyond that, when it comes to governments and big corporations, they of course have a very big part to play too because their policies can affect climate in a big way. And yes, they need to be held accountable, that much I think is agreed.
Its the way these people think what they are doing is going to make a difference. In fact, what they do, do nothing at all. Nothing except earning praises from their own beings. Governments and corporations are not going to move mountains because someone decides to glue their hands on the wall. I personally believe in peaceful negotiation and talks but even then I have doubts those will work with these government and corporations. But that does not mean I think that protests as such will work. The idea that just because talking nicely does not work, doing something drastic will. And again I seriously doubt the intentions of these people, pretty much like people who lambast people for eating meat because it destroys the earth and because oh being a vegan is so much more noble. These people, at least most of them, do it to massage their conscience to say that they have done alot for this earth.
Well if you look at it from a collective point of view, these people are the part of our conscience which is starting to wake up and take notice. As I said, I donāt agree with this peculiar way of doing things because they could unintentionally harm or even destroy one of these masterpieces, and that would be a horrible shame. But on the other hand, when you talk nice and always fall on deaf ears, or worse, on people deliberately ignoring such an important topic, youāll look for other ways to reach the dormant parts of our conscience.
I for one think that this is only the beginning. We have a lot of young people here who have started glueing their hands on big roads during peak traffic times. They certainly donāt make themselves popular with thatā¦

Sadly the message just isnāt getting through. Too many deny itās an issue and our whole global political structure is either in denial or simply unable or even unwilling to address it.
On a personal level I could do a bit more I guess but I use less electric than the UK average I think, I drive less miles, I use old cars and will get the LPG system back up on my van. I donāt eat meat, and rarely fly.
The reality of it is that lots of people talk the talk, not many actually walk the walk. I include myself.

I try to find a balance whenever possible to reduce my footprint on earth
when I fish, I always leave the riverbank cleaner than I leave it. Catch & Release 95% of the time unless Iām going to eat it that day. I tend my own garden and grow my own vegetables whenever possible. we donāt have AC, keep our central heating set low during the day when working from home and even colder at night (sweaters and blankets in my home). entire house is LED lighting, our electrical bill is 60% fees and 40% usage. our recycling volume is larger than our garbage, try to eat as little manufactured food these days (which is harder than it looks!)
our motorhome runs on LPG but we only use it a few times a year these days. we use the 1.5L Honda Fit for errands and the compact SUV for family outings if we need the extra space or all-wheel drive for snow situations.
other than those, Iām not sure what other improvements we could make?
we now both work from home so neither of us commute regularly.
