Well deserved, and gives us some stability there for the next few years.

Cody needs a good song (I am not really aware if he has a song).

Given how often his name is misspelt, a variation of Synpathy for the devil might work:

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzlin’ you
Is the nature of my game

With Cody being a devout Christian, I don’t think he would like that idea too much.

Like you’ve said, it does grate on my nerves when they butchered his name as Gap Co…similar to nuclear be pronounced as new-cue-lar.

Yes, it would be a bit inappropriate! I was just thinking that the whoo-hoo refrain in the song would make for a great football chant.

No wonder Chiesa is no hurry to move back to Italy.

Following the departure of fellow left-winger Luis Diaz, the 26-year-old has stepped into a role of even greater importance and will be earning an increased salary to reflect that.

**He has been earning a reported £120,000 per week at Liverpool, about the same as Federico Chiesa**, who is just 18 months older and started 28 games fewer than Gakpo last season.

Lots of criticism in the match threads.

Cody is still one of my favorite players here right now. To me he always looked more like a CF naturally and wish they would have give him the chance to prove himself there.

He is still doing a great job but imo he’s a bit ā€˜wasted’ as a wide attacker.

We were blessed with Sadio and Lucho in the last decade and I think it’s not fair to compare Gakpo with them.

The biggest issue that definitely hurts how his performances are perceived but also I think his actual effectiveness as well, is he lacks the dog that Mane and Diaz both had. It allows to him drift out of games in a way they never did. And even when involved he can lose the ball quite meekly in a way the previous two would have required blood and broken bones to have it taken from them. They could often have left their FB absolutely battered and tormented despite ending the game without any direct goal contribution, whereas Gapko can often leave with goals and/or assists to his name with a feeling that he didnt do as much as he should have.

He is a strong lad and really should be harder to take the ball from than he is, and that definitely hurts our ability to use him as a reliable outlet and to earn a foothold in the opposition third.

I’ve already seen a few tall/strong looking (which doesn’t mean that they are) left wingers at Liverpool who could be a bit flaky in duels. Babel, Riera, Gakpo…

I prefer Cody when he’s a bit angry and plays with a point to prove. Don’t relax because young Rio is your backup on paper (even if the likes of Wirtz and Chiesa can also play there). He’s been a bit up and down so far this season.

I think now it’s clear that he won’t be anything else other than a LW under Slot (which I agree with). But I’d like him to add a bit more variety to his game, combine better with players around him.

He earned himself a contract here until the age of 31. We’ll see if he will remain our first choice LW during that time as he enters into what should be his peak years.

He is a different type of winger compared to Mane and Diaz but his performances have been above average and this season, he has one of those who had better performances than alot in the squad.

There are so many negatives around Liverpool at the moment but one I frequently wonder about it what the hell happened with Gakpo, especially in terms of finishing. The misses against Man United and Man City… He’ll not have many easier chances in his career. That ā€œbeliever to doubterā€ meme hits particularly hard with Gakpo, considering that there probably wasn’t a Liverpool player who didn’t expect him to have his best season in a Liverpool shirt after the previous two and a half seasons that showed quite a bit of promise.

Nothing has happened to him, this performance level is about the level expected of his talent.

Padding in the league cup and nice easy home games is one thing. We’ve never had to rely on him every week before, this is the result.

He’s levels below Diaz and Mane. Can’t expect much more from him than this.
