Daft Prick Boehly‘s Blue Billion Pound Plastic Bottlejobs

At this rate, Poch might actually have a small first team squad to start pre-season.

:joy:

But he still wants a striker, midfielder, defender and goalkeeper.

Having a proper clear out these plastics aren’t they?

Kovacic to City done for 30m.

Ziyech and Koulibaly both closer to following Kante out the door to Saudi.

Arsenal signing Rice & Havertz for 150m would be hilarious.

No idea John, but whatever it is…they’re clearly not off it!!!

It’s more nuanced than that.

If PIF invested in a Clearlake fund, it can’t take its money out. The Clearlake funds are legal partnerships whereby the General Partner (or GP, in this case Clearlake) has almost complete control of the Limited Partners’ (or LPs’, in this case PIF) capital. The partnership has a legally defined beginning and end period both for investing and distribution of capital back to the LPs, typically lasting about 10 years with a 5 year investment period.

Instead, what happens is that as the GP invests the LPs’ capital over a 3-4 year period, the GP will come back into the market to raise their next fund. It is typically here where the LPs will either reinvest with the GP if they are happy or won’t if they are unhappy. So Clearlake has an incentive to keep their LPs happy. If PIF isn’t happy with Clearlake, they won’t reinvest in Clearlake’s next fund.

That’s a very simplistic description but that’s basically how it works.

Mendy as well.

I genuinely didn’t think they spent all that money in 2022/23 alone and that they are looking to spend some more, this is staggering.

According to this, they are about to recoup about 120 million pounds or thereabouts pretty soon:

No thanks to Arsenal, wtf are they actually doing paying 65m for Havertz…he’s woeful.

Kante went for free, Mendy for 10m.

Utd about to sign Mount, so there’s another 50m.

Meanwhile we’re on our knees trying to get anyone to bid anything for our deadwood.

To be honest, if Kovačić, Havertz and Mount are your deadwood, then that means you should have a pretty amazing squad… Unless you’re Chelsea whose strategy is to rip up the strategy every two or three years, buy a lot of new players and hire new managers. Incidentally, in terms of trophies, it’s been working for them just fine over the last twenty years.

As for our deadwood… Yeah, it’s just that, deadwood, and it’s hard to shift. We’ll see what happens, this time I’m much more concerned about the incomings than outgoings.

What I didn’t expect was so many outgoings so early. Pochettino surely agrees to takeover Chelsea with a good idea what he’d like his team/squad to look like. But still. It’s a bit unusual also because the players/characters that are leaving, some of them were rare individual successes at Chelsea lately. But who cares, what Chelsea’s first 11 looks like on matchday 1 is probably the hardest thing to guess in football.

Wouldn’t go as far to say they’re deadwood but they’re getting extortionate fees for average at best players…In Kovacic’s case a player who is past it, Chelsea fans must be delighted with that, 29 years old off the back of a shocking season and here have 30m…meanwhile us with Fab…

We’re a sell to buy club, so a lot of our incomings are determined by who goes out…they need to be treated in equal measure…leaving the rot to manifest doesn’t do anyone any good.

Well someone needs to start guessing, as it is us that will be playing them :0)

Right, the point being they are only able to influence the investment decisions of the fund via public pressure, even if the avenues they have for acting on that are limited.

Just out of interest, is anyone actually staying at Chelsea?

Of course, in some areas they will have multiple nice options, in other areas they will need a few more players in.

This is their first team squad as things stand with recent rumours about players leaving (will be more):

GK: Arrizabalaga, Bettinelli, Slonina
CB: Silva, W. Fofana, Badiashile, Chalobah, Colwill, Sarr, Ampadu
FB: James, Azpilicueta, Gusto, Chilwell, Cucurella, Hall, Rahman
CM: Fernandez, Gallagher, Loftus-Cheek, Chukwuemeka, Santos
FW: Sterling, Mudryk, Pulisic, Nkunku, Madueke, Lukaku, Broja, Aubameyang, D.D. Fofana

Could see at least 18 of those being kept.

Will also depend what system Pochettino plans to use, if he even knows by now.

Obviously CM is looking like an area where they will need to do more business. Plus, Jackson looks like will happen in the striker department. Surely a few of the last ones on the list will leave.

So many forwards, and barring one - Nkunku - they’re all shit.

And Nkunku might end up getting ‘Chelsea’d’ as well :joy:

Edit: ok, I’ve seen some nice comments online about Broja, but if he’s ever a regular at Chelsea I’ll eat my hat, most likely will end up at lower midtable PL club…

Another one gone from Chelsea, Loftus-Cheek is about to sign for Milan for €16m+€4m.

They’re “cleaning” the place much faster than I expected.

I’m surprised at the price and I would have thought a Premier League team would have been interested in signing him…
