Darwin NUNEZ: 2024/25

Well of course… it could be the TAA shenanigans that are starting to influence the mindset of some of the players… Viz: Just play at the club until your contract runs down to zero… leave on a free and scoop up the financial reward from others

It’s a shame Newcastle and Chelsea have both made it into the Champions League next season as it probably complicates our business for buying a new centre forward.

Newcastle’s interest appears to be in finding a back up for Isak after deciding to release Callum Wilson. I know they are linked to Etikite, but I cannot imagine they’d be able to compete for the really high profile guys everyone else is circling around, both in cost and attractiveness of the proposition of the player.

Minor difference in the “just play until your contract ends”, Trent was one of the key players for us, we will not let Nunez get to the end of his. And don’t worry, he’s got 3 more nice years on his deal…

Yeah, my thinking was though that if Newcastle hadn’t qualified for the Champion’s League, we would probably be signing Isak.

I hate sports-washing, unless it benefits my club through inflated transfer fees!

Shouldn’t be dealing with them. Never should’ve dealt with them. It’s not difficult to operate without dealing with them.

If Adolf Hitler flew in today, you’d send a limousine.

Point of order, when Donald Trump flew in the British state sent their beloved Queen (albeit under sufferance). So context my dear boy is everything.

Arnie seems a brutaI guy. I cant see him putting up with anotehr season of Nunez unless we shift one of Gakpo and diaz, get a new CF and put Nunez on left

But when we had him on the wings we complained that we should put him in the middle to be productive.

I don’t see Nunez on the left as anything other than one of the “3rd”, emergency or near the end of games options (depending on circumstances). That would’ve been more likely under Klopp, less so under Slot I think. Either he leaves or stays here one more season as a backup striker (or one of the backups). I was afraid he would possibly get 4 seasons at Liverpool and then sell him when he has 2 years left on his deal. We’ll see though, the summer has just started. Sometimes you depend on pieces moving on the market for spaces and need to open up.

Since we don’t yet know how Slot is going to set his team up with the new players coming in,we don’t know how he’ll use Frimpong and Wirtz, how can we be sure his potentially new set up hasn’t got a place in it for Nunez.

When you put it like that, yeah we can’t be sure about anything.

:joy:

But things were clear to see in most positions and now we want to improve as a team.

The doors are always perfectly open for an individual to surprise and prove himself.

I don’t see it, I don’t think Nunez will become that here. The most I can hope for is for him to be a bit more useful and score a few more goals than he was/did last season.

If he stays. But I’d say he’s still more likely to leave.

Even if Nunez contributes 15 G/A next season if he stays with us , he’s still going to be a failure as an overall signing.

Better to let him go. Loads of people have been on record here stating they do not hate him or despise him. People wanted him to succeed. It just didn’t happen. Won’t be the first high profile signing to fail under Klopp , won’t be the last.

But at this point , cut the losses.

I honestly hope not. We’ve seen some great ability of his at his time at Benfica when he used to play wider but I don’t see him getting that form back, especially in the PL. This league is not for him. Have to recoup whatever we can get for him and replace.

I think Nunez has come to the end of the line with us. He was decent under Klopp - not great, but decent, and there was a sense that we were hoping he would kick on further. Under Slot that did not materialize, and in fact, he went a bit backwards, and the more the season wore on, the less it seemed that Slot fancied him.

The athletic ingredients are all there, but he is low on confidence. I also have a hunch that Nunez does his best work on instinct, but Slot is building a controlled sort of game that doesn’t fully mesh with Nunez.

If rumours of Al Hilal coming back in for him are right, after expressing interest in January and just being turned down by Osimhen, I could see a move there happening quite quickly. If it does, good luck to Darwin Nunez.

At that point, all eyes on what we do next… Osimhen? Ekitike? To play in front of Wirtz, with Kerkez and Frimpong giving renewed oomph on the flanks. Let’s see.
