Darwin Nunez (CF/LW) to Al Hilal/Atletico/Napoli

And we aren’t getting Osimhen. His salary demands are way too high. And there’s quite a bit of arrogance about him , if that’s the right word to make me believe that he would fail the dickhead test.

Oh in an ideal world I’d totally agree. But that’s how football works these days, where these things are not only allowed but encouraged, otherwise they’d put a stop to it. Just have to watch what FIFA have been doing with World Cups and that new tinpot cup.

So you either keep following football knowing that it is a morally bankrupt shitshow, or better just stop following altogether imo. Which is fair enough and I’ve considered it many times.

Also we’ve already done that with Fab and Henderson so it’s not like we would lose our virginity.

Nunez has 0 goals and assists in the last 10 appearances for Uruguay (in which he was taken off twice at HT)…

10 of his total 13 goals came on a streak from October 2023 to June 2024.

We talk about different levels or being useful, but even his Uruguay story has been far from smooth sailing or without struggles.

And now there’s more need and pressure on him since there is no Cavani and Suarez anymore in attack.

I am certain the best position for Nunez is CB. He has the pace, work ethic, height, aggression, clearance and will never ever score own goals. He might score for us from Set plays once in a while which is great. If I value him as a defender he is worth 80 million pounds more than what we paid for. Slot needs to work on this. He will become the best CB in the world.

This reminds me of that random shout from Rafa’s time: “put Kuyt at RB and Johnson at RW!”.

Mate. I have 0 doubts on Nunez as CB will be the best. The third thing that’s certain apart from Taxes and Death. Lol.

Fans really shouldn’t bean count in general. Leave that to FSG and Hughes. The only time it should concern fans is when there is a lack of it and if I’m honest I’m comfortable with how we’ve done it for years now.

Or, you’re trying to spend 20m on someone called Lazar Markovic when you are still desperately short of a striker

Arsenal , United say hi.

Ornstein:

There is, meanwhile, a possible departure from Merseyside in the form of Darwin Nunez. Al Hilal contacted Liverpool about the Uruguay striker on Monday and the Saudi Pro League team were made aware about the conditions of a move. Liverpool rejected a proposal worth €70m from Al Nassr in January and that sets a minimum bar if an exit is to materialise. Nunez is thought to favour staying in Europe — Spain and Italy being a priority. Atletico Madrid are among those considering the forward.

Atletico… two up top, but he’d be 4th choice there.

:joy:

Well Italian clubs will offer 2 beans and a second hand Fiat with 70m promised next season so you can tell them to jog off.

You are right - me taking the moral high ground won’t change a thing. Newcastle supporters are not complaining. It’s here to stay and grow whether football or LIV golf etc.

If Al whoever in the Saudi League offer the 70 mill again for Darwin and a Euro side offer significantly less well there is only one group you deal with.

This guy (Jacobs) is a complete and total blagger. Not a reliable source by any stretch.

I’ve been wondering and asking for years who is he and if he’s worth posting in these threads other than the unreliable one…

To be very honest this season he has been quite good. He didnt get many things wrong and going by the rumour that makes perfect sense as Al-Hilal are after so many strikers and they had a bid rejected by us in January.

If this thread wasn’t open I’d not consider him someone worth opening a thread from one his reports.

However, the thread was opened on the back of Joyce linking Nunez with a way out, and it seems counter intuitive to me to post further Nunez rumours in the unreliable rumour thread as that runs the risk of then having two threads focused on his potential exit, one with people discussing the more reliable journos, and one with people discussing the less reliable ones.

Jacobs to me is unreliable, but once a thread is open on a player’s exit whatever he says belongs in the player specific transfer thread rather than the unreliable one, same as Plettenberg, Romano, tavolieri, et al.

I think it seemed obvious with how he was used at the end that we weren’t considering here.

In all honesty he’s become something of a gormless caricature of what he once promised to be. I don’t get how anybody , apart from the Arabs , would be willing to invest serious money in that.

I think he might thrive under Simeone at Atlético.
