It makes me angry that these people have political cloth and can sway actual opinions in the US.
I grew up as a Christian, I no longer believe, I kind of read my way out of religion and consider myself a relatively open minded agnostic. But this is absolutely atrocious blasphemy that few atheists, no matter how extreme, would resort to and downright a heinous thing to do to Ortodox Christians who are about to celebrate Christmas in 2 days.
He is equating supporting Trump’s coup to dying as a martyr. With being beheaded by religious looney’s for your personal belief. It is so ugly, so incredibly disrespectful to those who were beheaded. It is hard to understand that he views himself as a Christian and that people listen to what this son of a bitch has to say:

Just wanted to comment on US standing and respect around the world. It has obviously plummeted under the Trump Presidency.
I put the point to a younger colleague not too long ago. He is a college graduate, in his mid 20s, considers himself a conservative, and he voted for Trump.
He said he couldn’t care less what the rest of the world thinks about the US. And there are many, many more like him.
I know. But to not care about the standing of the country is, despite higher education and college degrees, incredibly short sighted and directly stupid. He is then clearly unable to think strategic, lost in mere shallow tactical thinking.
They never have. But they will at the point the US no longer is the default reserve currency. The economic shock from that happening will make covid look like a stroll in the park. The signs of that happening are accumulating. If you can’t trust America, you can’t really ignore China.
Nixon actually damaged the Democrats more than the Republicans - by permanently eroding trust in the federal government - because Republicans’ agenda since 1920s has been “less government”.
Anyway Mr. Wasserman seems really confident if you read his tweet-line. Almost on the verge of calling it for Dems. Me, I know too little about the various counties and their political composition to say anything, but it is promising that a political commentator seems to think this is going the right way. Meanwhile, CNN is stressing the competitiveness of it all, with their Game Show bang-bang, flash-flash intros of “key-alert” etc.
Anyway, I have learned long ago that journalists on twitter that specialise on politics is a much better source than CNN, who has an obvious interest in making politics seem mysterious and very artificially “exciting”.

Meanwhile in DC, Pence has met with Trump on executing a fake coup for the ages that will reaffirm a democracy by, for, and of Cruz, Graham, Hawley, and who knows.
You are right, of course. The guy I mentioned has a passport and has traveled internationally.
It’s arrogance, but he and many like him don’t care what the world thinks about America. They have overdosed on American exceptionalism, and believe it to be the best place and the rest of the world can do one if they don’t like the US.
Arminius makes a great point about currency and China though. Once the world throws off the US dollar, America is in the shit. Mind you, I suppose that’s why they carry a big stick, militarily speaking. But our Chinese overlords are coming sooner rather than later!
