Only few more hours, lads. Then the repair works can start in earnest.

Did not follow this much after Biden won. So is Senate control also going to Democrats? Which makes it easier to execute policies in theory rather than getting roadblocks and opposition for the sake of it

The goobers gleefully shared Jonathan Pie’s rant after the 2016 election…they were falling all over themselves, they could not get enough of it.

I wonder if they are similarly enamored with him today…

Yes, the Senate is currently a 50-50 split between the Democrats and the Republicans. However, Vice-President Kamala Harris will have the deciding vote in case of a stalemate.

Biden is on a bit of a hiding here. Having gotten rid of Trump and having what seems like millions of complete morons who will be actively working against him he will also have everyone else who was saying 'anyone but Trump’s watching his every move waiting for either the recovery or for him to fuck it up (even if that is only perception).

I’m glad Trump is gone but at his age I don’t see Biden seeing out his term with all the shit that is going to be slung his way. The pressure is going to be simply enormous.

I think he is going to hit the ground running and make a fairly decent impact over the first 100 days. The real problems set in later on in his time in office if the Democrats lose control of either house but I think enough can be done before then to at least keep the Democrat supporters onside plus some of the neutrals/swing voters.

Worth pointing out it was originally his executive order that banned them from doing so.

Genuinely cannot think of a President who has come into office under worst circumstances. Lincoln of course had even greater political polarization, but the Northern economy of 1860 was robust and there was nothing comparable to the pandemic. Foreign relations are in disarray at best, trust in the US has been shattered and the US is direct conflict now with both Russia and China. Biden’s earliest step are necessarily going to be to focus inward, which in a perverse way will only confirm the global sense of who Americans really are now.

Why Scotland?

He’s ready to hit the links!!!

Hasn’t had much opportunity to play golf these last four years, the poor bloke.

Probably thinks that Scotland is a safe haven for him due to Brexit or something.

LOL. I was thinking Dubai.

Drinking in the sky lounge of Burj Khalifa with his pal Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. All the while staring at the Iranian coastline and badmouthing Biden.

Well, in a strict term, no. They progressively and systemically destroyed any pre-existing society in North America before establishing theirs. In that sense, their first foundation block is theft of lands, and massive murder of the native population.

Of course, the immigrants came from all nations in the world, and thus that’s the multicultural part.

When I see this what is meant by it (from the BBC)?

  1. Trump will not attend his successor’s inauguration - only the fourth president not to do so

Because by my count, eight presidents have died in office (of whom four were assassinated), and Nixon resigned in disgrace. So which six of those nine dead or disgraced former presidents attended the inauguration of their successor and whose sick idea was it?

Or do they mean that 3 presidents before Trump have chosen not to attend the inauguration of their successor?

Or is an inauguration ceremony something introduced in the last century or so?
