Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

It’s very bad that Biden went for another general as Sec Def., but at least he starts out very right.
Not that he is a bad choice per see, only heard good things about him. But he should not be a general and imo Congress was wrong to accept the waiver of the actual law that was in place to make sure generals are not secretaries of defense. Seems a giant own goal to me for the Biden admin to basically do what Trump did and neutralize the civilian-military relationship, but good luck to him now that he is a Sec. Def. Shouldn’t have been though, he really shouldn’t.
But now that the mistake has been made, hope he is responsible and acts well. But make no mistake, it’s bad and sets a giant precedent now that both parties have done this. With the GOP, you could at least pretend that only they were the crazy ones. Big problem now that the Dems are normalising this though.

Was this meant for the coronavirus thread? or the Norwegian history thread?

It’s easily done :slightly_smiling_face:

The Republicans are in a real mess. Although the temptation is to gloat, the US does need strong and sensible political leadership, and it is sadly missing. The Democrats themselves are only really held together by their rejection of Trumpism.

And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there…

Imbeciles. Like it’s going to do any good to the USA, let alone the world. Why do they keep forgetting the fact that the only thing that has worked with Iran since 1979 is the negotiated deal in 2015. Wouldn’t mind a bit if Iran now leans towards China & Russia.

US policy toward Iran is influenced by the interests of Israel and Saudi Arabia and not by common sense unfortunately.

Yes exactly. But what purpose has it served in last 40 years? Today Iran’s proxies are on the borders of Israel and Saudi Arabia. I mean the policy to protect Israel and Saudi Arabia (and other regional allies) has actually backfired.

Ultimately Iran is just a distraction. They need to pivot back to focusing completely on China.
