Strange not to see any comments about how milley allegedly informed a senior Chinese general that he would tell him if America was to attack, this site has become so one sided in everything really has become an echo chamber with faux outrage with which ever way the media /liberals point to
All the reports I’ve seen are that he called his counterpart in the Chinese Government to assure them that the USA were not planning to attack China - rather than telling him if/when we were to attack as you misleadingly framed it.
“Woodward and Costa describe how Milley learned in October 2020 that the Chinese had become concerned that Trump would preemptively attack China because Trump was losing the 2020 election and his rhetoric against China was growing increasingly hostile.”
“His calls with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability,” said the spokesman, Col. Dave Butler.
All of Milley’s calls were coordinated with the rest of the Department of Defense and other relevant agencies, Butler added.
Faux outrage indeed.
The threat of echo chambers is a very real possibility in this age of curated media. I’ll gently suggest you could also do with looking at yours.

You’re twisting the story, based on the reporting, again - he wasn’t “keeping a foreign power appraised of any developments”. He was giving them a reassurance that military action would not be taken and it has been confirmed that his calls were coordinated with the DoD.

Just out of curiosity can you provide how many wars this madman started in his term? And compare to bush Clinton Obama etc how many people worldwide died from this madman , yes he’s a twat but let’s have some perspective.
And those that are saying Milley did everything correct are simply misguided, he did not have the authority to do what he did, his actions by are by definition treasonous on so many levels and the fact that Nancy was also involved is just madness, whichever way you look at it America is genuinely in the worse state I’ve seen it in, logic and fact do not matter anymore
I think Odin has a point, but it is a point that is stronger in normal times.
In this instance Trump was, and is, so unstable, that a calming general acted like a grown up to reassure China in a tumultuous time. In some ways I don’t like it, in terms of strict chain of command, but overall, I think it was for the good.
I suspect China may have been hovering with the finger over the trigger in their own version of DEFCON 1 so I’m glad America has grown ups in senior positions who are able to talk to their counterparts and smooth situations over before they become disastrous.
As society we do not allow SS campe guards a defense of just following orders. It seems that if we honestly feel that way we then need to accept a little bit of treasonous (not sure it was, but I’ll run with it) rejection of authority if its in the interest of peace.
FWIW though, Alex Vindeman, the Ukraine call whistleblower and liberal darling, has criticized Milley and called for his resignation. I havent read his comments in detail, but from what I can tell though that is less a criticism of the actions and more an acknowledgment that his position is now untenable, and I think that’s a fair take.

Starting war, especially in the AUMF era is such a bizarre metric. Neither Trump nor Obama technically started a new war, but Trump’s conduct of his wars was far more hawkish and inconsiderate of lives than his predecessors. Just talking about wanting to end our involvement in foreign wars doesnt make you a dove if you at the same time gleefully increase drone strikes while lowering the standard for authorizing them, concern for civ casualities and roll back transparaent reporting of it.

Its a bit difficult to condemn a man when there is limited information available. Even Trump casts doubts about its accuracy. Calling the Woodward and Costa’s reporting as “fake news” and “fabricated”.
My guess is there is am element of truth to this, but its difficult to say the extent. We have no idea who made these claims. The identities are not disclosed. We have to trust that Woodward/Costa’s sources are correct. Something that has not always been correct with past books.
The USA is in a perpetual state of war - has been since 1776.
It’s what they do.

FWIW, most of what i’ve seen of what id consider non-partisan criticism of this hasnt even been about the calls to China, but more about the alleged internal discussions about the nuclear strike chain of command. All of course heavily caveated with “if the reporting is accurate”.

whilst I sympathize, I don’t think my treatment would be any better if I attempted to sneak into the USA and got caught.
They’re not trying to sneak in, they’re trying to claim asylum and in order to do that they have to be inside the USA (not possible to claim asylum from outside the country) so they know they have to get across the border then apply for application.
The asylum seekers are largely gathered beneath the Del Rio Bridge in Texas awaiting processing. Unfortunately Biden’s administration is sending more of them back to Haiti than even Trump did.
And even if they were trying to sneak in, I don’t think it justifies some guy on a horse being able to whip you indiscriminately.
