There’s no need for assault rifles or semi-automatic weapons, or devices to turn a firearm into a semi-automatic. There’s no need for handguns either.
Shotguns or Hunting rifles, fine. If you own a farm or ranch or if you go to places where hunting is allowed, but you need to be licensed, provide ID, DNA, and fingerprints, pass a psych evaluation, evidence a suitable place to keep it, pass a gun competency course, and have a character reference from someone of good standing.
I know people who own guns and the whole conversation is so circular it is infuriating…
“Can you believe it, another mass shooting? We need to do something to restrict gun ownership”
“It’s horrible that kids died but it’s our right to own guns. What we need to do it stop people killing with guns”
“So gun control then?”
“No we need guns, look at the world how do we defend ourselves against the government and out of control police?”
“You’re going to shoot the police?”
“No”
“Then why do you need guns?”
“For protection”
“But everyone will be safer with limited gun ownership and strict rules on what can be owned”
“It’s our right to own guns. What we need to do it stop people killing with guns”
We need gun control but we also need free mental health services and a lower cost of living, in fact maybe also try not charging the fuck out of people for basic medical services.
For me it was the guy we stayed with who was proud to carry a loaded gun into church on Easter Sunday. His reasoning was that if anybody tried anything, they’d be shot very quickly. I had a mental vision of a cartoon where the whole town shoots the guy in the middle. And the crossfire
like those 50 senators that refuse to even consider the bill that would require these limits because they will lose their positions of power? Yep, they’re of good standing
I have no idea but I seem to have the impression that its more the Republicans who are more in cahoots with the gun companies? Is my impression true? If yes, then since the Democrats have control over the Senate and House, could not they push through a radical gun ownership change within their term?
Do you need all democrats to vote agree or would there be enough democrats to push radical changes through? It would be quite depressing if the Democrats with full control could not push this through cos surely the Republicans will never do anything for it if they are in control
Sorry I was just desperate and took the first results I can find when I google, how much did NRA donate to politicians and I come upon this website, National Rifle Assn Profile: Recipients • OpenSecrets not knowing its accuracy, it seems that donations to Democrats are very minimal…if that is true, surely, if there is a will from Biden and his team…they can push this through to start outlawing gun ownership.
Oh…I would have thought it only needs certain majority within the Senate and House…God really need to bless America then…this gun shit is really the gutters…
