Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

Odds-on that it was a Trump supporter.

I read the husband was drunk and involved in a car crash a couple of weeks ago… consequence of that maybe…
Who knows anymore what is happening when the looming figure of Donald has his tentacles reaching far and wide

There’s actually a wiki page for U.S. House of Representatives members killed or wounded. Tellingly, no attacks between 1973 and 2011. This would be the fourth (at least by close association) in a little more than a decade.

Peak US “liberal” media

Headline - Is Inflation Biden’s fault and Will Tax Cuts Fix It?

The answers are no and no, yet somehow this, the GOP talking points, was considered a good headline for the piece.

You have to love the way the MAGA types never own their people doing the thing they speak about needing to be done. Rather than hail the guy who attacked Pelosi as a patriot doing what they all say needs to be done, the second the news breaks he is renounced as his gay lover. This brings you the MAGA cycle:

  • Focus on an issue and demand patriots take action
  • Define exactly what is meant by take action
  • Watch someone take said action
  • Blame Antifa/the gays/purple haired baristas.

Here is another one

Written by someone who was so wrong so often, as pointed out by actual experts each time, with no acknowledgment or change in attitude, that it is difficult to view her wrongness as accidental, or even ideological. Yet here she is offering suggesting that people who disagreed with her should now be offered grace.

If her take was “how could I, someone who had no understanding of what I was talking about, have possibly known I was wrong. The pandemic was wild, yo.” Then that would be one thing, but that isnt even her take. She’s still convinced of her anti-expert takes and thinks people who studied pandemics their entire lives should apologize to her and if they did she would forgive them.

Pretty much everyone hates this take, but the reason depends on your view on the pandemic. Actual public health people she shouted over the past 2 and half year say forgiveness shouldnt come before acceptance of wrong doing. And people Oster resonated with say they’ll never forgive the people saying stuff they disagreed with.

I nearly got up and started jumping up and down in the hallway myself right now. Any chance we can get this guy employed to do the team talks?

someone speak the truth, at the bare minimum.

Saw one piece, semi-supportive, that suggested it was perhaps not a great idea because a Republican Congress might be able to get to the real truths…of the inaction under a Republican Administration.

Right…

On the one hand, this is a Conservative outlet bashing the current GOP party

On the other hand, it speaks to exactly what is wrong with “sane republicans” and those who have spent their career supporting them that the family who helped usher the GOP into climate change denial is now getting on board with the big lie and “serious conservatives” act surprised.

I wonder how many times Graham will effectively take the fifth by refusing to answer questions he deems to be a part of his legislative duties.

At least the slimy little twat is being forced before the grand jury though , his lawyer fees must be astronomical , and ultimately all in vain.

Unfortunately not as what is in our schools is one of the most politically charged debates there is and is one of the biggest sources of fake news.

Imagine the scenario, a story is used in the lesson that states black people enjoyed being slaves. The US RW flood the zone with claims the lessons are teaching white kids to hate themselves.

Amazing conversation here. Crime has become one of the most relevant issues in these midterms, despite the fact that people who value crime as a primary factor have a view completely at odds with reality

Here is Radley Balko pointing out that fears of blue city crime waves are misguided and all he gets in response is “dont tell me about the data, I know what it feels like. I know what the news tells me” and still the recognition is not kicking in with these people

A point bolstered by this observation from Bump

The biggest lie people tell themselves is that because they know biased media framing exists they are immune to the effects of it.

makes me want to vomit.

I have a 7yo. All kids today are obsessed with screens of any type, the control which those devices will have over this current generation of users is mind-fucking-boggling. from TikTok to YouTube to Facebook to Instagram, it’s bothersome how none of these kids know how to pickup an encyclopaedia or a history book in school and form their own conclusions instead of being force-fed whatever they are being subjected to that day.
