I also don’t understand why pardons and commutations are done at the end of terms. I get the symbolism. But they seem to lose meaning and don’t serve justice on a timely basis. Arguably they are all viewed cynically. But I don’t understand a lot of things these days.

This is what these fucks do. Time after time. So much of their in group signaling to each other serves a double purpose. It is not just supposed to be clearly understood by their audience, but is also designed to have just enough plausible deniability to kick start a new stupid cycle of accusation-defense, knowing full well that the people going to the mat to defend them to accuse the libs of hysterical overreactions definitely, 100%, had no confusion about the signal that was sent.

I have been feeling down too. I feel we are all going to be worse off economically and socially now. It will embolden all extreme parties and their goons to come out and be more extreme in their views causing more tensions amongst the the different communities and different socio-economic groups.

This for a man whose only mention of EVs during his speech today was how he was going to kill the tax credits.
Also take note that off all the business people Trump had there, notably absent were any leaders from the manufacturing sector that Trump claims to advocate for.

I think it is more of a personal change, and I cannot help but wonder if it is connected to his intense health challenges in the past 3 years. That said, I suspect the more of the whiff of oligarchy he gets, the unhappier Fetterman will become.

It is tempting, and also tricky. On a personal note as a Brit I would probably go back home. It gets complicated as Mrs ROTW is American (went to Uni in the UK back in the day). We live near to her parents, and siblings, nieces/nephews and very elderly grandparents.
Our kids were very little when we moved here - daughter was 5, son was 2. They are now 21 and 18 and feel American more than anything, but at the same time they are horrified at what the country is becoming. In their own circles they are fighting the good fight for better than this…
