Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

The cops who killed Elijah McClain have been found not guilty.

What makes this case so egregious is the cops weren’t even responding to reports of a crime. The issue they were following up on was only of an unarmed man who looked sketchy. That was it. That was enough for these cops to escalate this confrontation with this meek little guy they had nothing on.

zero sense of compassion with those officers. I just watched the bodycam footage and they we aggressive right from exiting the vehicle. What a fucking state the US is right now, it’s shocking.

and that’s Colorado of all places.

Photos surfaced of them returning to the scene months after the fact and laughingly reenacting choking someone out. I don’t think you need to know about that to be disgusted with this whole situation, but once you do it feels pathetically preditible.

The 3rd in line for the Presidency uses an app to track his internet usage (specifically, porn) and send it to a 3rd party (he knows his son, but who else?), and it does it through an untrusted proxy. I don’t see any security implications at all to the Speaker using software written by some fundamentalist incel in his mother’s basement, none at all.

GOP spends 2 election cycles relentlessly fighting an intense culture war positioning anyone on the left of Mitt Romney as a deviant pervert

GOP then elevates to the most important member of the national party someone who exchanges porn info with his son

Healthy relationship or shrewd marketing?

More bad news for Biden in the latest CNN poll which shows Trump widening his lead , and once again the polls show that his age is a major issue.

'Of further concern for Biden: a mere 25 percent of those polled answered “yes” to the question of whether he “has stamina/sharpness,” while 74 percent said “no.” Trump received vastly better scores in that category, with 53 percent saying “yes,” and 47 percent “no.”

Did the same polls suggest the wins that Democrats had last night though? I’m trying hard to reconcile the image of a Republican-leaning country with the results last night. Surely if there was bad news for the Democrats, some of the more marginal results would have gone the other way…

Yeah , totally get that , but remember Trump wasn’t on the ballot yesterday and that means his base doesn’t show up to vote. Also what looks like it will be the Dems best weapon next year proved again to be so last night , and that was abortion rights.

It was definitely good news for the Dems and should take some heat off Biden. The bad news is that his prospective candidacy still appears to be a drag , and also that if Trump is not the candidate (because he’s in jail hopefully) then those recent polls have Nikki Hailey beating Biden by an even bigger margin.

I fear the Dems are going to sleepwalk to an election defeat with Biden at the helm.

The whole world knows he is too old, but nobody is doing anything about it. Making a change always comes with risk. If there is a process, it will show division until a clear winner emerges. And then if and when a clear winner emerges, in a timely enough manner, will they definitely be better placed to win a Presidential election than Joe Biden?

It’s hard to say.

But fast forward another year, in the knowledge that the aging process has a way of accelerating the later you go in a person’s lifespan.

Whatever frailty the public sees in Biden now will only be magnified in November 2024.

The Dems need to find a way to change, or they might sleepwalk their way to defeat.

Just Wow!

Ramaswamy proposed building a wall on the US northern border too, apparently because of fentanyl (of the 13 000 kg seized by US agencies, 1 kg has been at the northern border)

Can’t be too careful. Build all the walls!

Last night was completely deranged.

I’ve already commented in the middle east thread about how awful the discussions on the current conflict in Israel/Gaza were, but that hardly the low light.

All on stage with the exception of maybe Cristie, have made it a point of pride to deny racism (including the two Indians and the black guy) , to uphold the goodness of the American heart as something more evolved than something that can judge people by race. Yet they all (again, maybe with the exception of Cristie) fell over themselves to speak of the problem with anti Semitism and their condemnation of it. It’s like the past 7 years have been wiped from everyone’s head.

  • Tiki torches and chants of They shall not replace us at Charlottseville, and Trump’s embrace of them
  • 2 years ago CPAC was hosted on a stage made out of a Nazi symbol.
  • Pro-DeSantis Nazi demonstrations are frequently held all over the state of Florida
  • De Santis recently lost a senior campaign staffer over ties to overt neoNazi groups and has frequently had official releases full of neo nazi imagery
  • Trump’s embrace of self-avowed anti-semites like Nick Fuentes

I commented last night that in that crowd, Santorum would look like a heavyweight.

It was entertaining to just see Haley call Ramaswamy ‘scum’, and then everyone just sort of moved on

I did chuckle at that.

less than 15 miles from Capitol Hill.

I am sure they had more convenient pop-up locations in Alexandria. Traffic on the 66 can be terrible

come on, be serious now. Heidi Fleiss doesn’t set up shop at the Courtyard-by-Marriott
