It’s a really unfair bar given he’s largely replaced Bobby, someone who brings so much to the game other than scoring, but that’s often been my perspective of him. We seem to not play as well with him leading the line, but he makes up for it with goals.
Diogo did an interview with TAW before the LC final that theyre put out on the tube today.
I love the bit of needle that Diogo has about him - he mentions Leicester in the quarter final of the league cup, and how whilst on the bench he wasn’t impressed with their fans, and decided he was going to score against them - essentially to put two fingers up. We saw what happened, with him making it 3-2, before Taki got the late equaliser, and Jota slotted home the winning kick in the shoot out. With the cupped ear celebrations.
20 goals this season!
Score 30 and he’ll give Joël a run for his money as player of the season.
Hilarious MOTD discussion between Richards and Linekar about how to pronounce Jota.
They both got it wrong.
it’s not j as in jewel (Linekar) it’s not j like the y in yacht (Richards)
It is j pronounced like the s in measure.
The best Liverpool forward in the air that I’ve seen. If Crouch could have attacked the ball like Jota he’d have been unplayable.
Outstanding anticipation and technique.
I dimly remember Ray Houghton having quite a knack with his head. Jota in a different league though. I agree on Crouch, add Heskey to that missed opportunity.
Diogo Jota is having a fantastic season by the way:
- 42 appearances
- 21 goals
- 3 assists.
His performance/form at Liverpool is very good too, 34 goals in 72 games.
He’s such an enigma, until the goal you’d be hard pressed to think he was playing, then bang one chance and it’s in… then he basically vanishes again.
He does what you want from strikers, but it’s a weird viewing after watching Bobby for such a long time and how much he was in the game.
Going to be interesting to see how he grows.
I thought Jota was one of the main reasons that we were so poor in the 1st half, he just lost possession every time the ball was played to him. Even though he scored, I still wanted Bobby there.
I agree. that was a game where we really missed Bobby’s ability to press, drop deep and interfere with City’s midfield operations. he’s just a level above for game intelligence.
Yeah, scored the goal, but some of his lost passes in that second half a few times in a row… that was so bad.
Most, and funniest, accurate description of Jota currently.
What’s happened to him, doesn’t seem to fully be enjoying the moment.
August-Feb he was brilliant, last few months ok he’s popped up with some nice goals but the performances are very lacklustre.
Give the guy a break. He’s been exceptional for us this season. Everyone has peaks and troughs.
Bet on him to score the winner in the final.
His work rate is still great just his touch is off atm
