Downunder Thread

Weren’t there like thousands of people there? I really wished I heard a strong response from them like clapping and cheering to drown those idiots out. And to make matters worse, we have the Storm cancelling the welcome to country on the same day in the NRL.

Hello folks. Would love to hear about your views about the upcoming election.

Dear Ifti,
You never learn.
All the best,
Craig

not sure that would have translated…

if you started clapping while someone was booing during a ceremony built around silence id translate it support of the action…

agree though…would have been nice if someone belted them back to next week…

its all become a bit heated and precious, the best welcome to country i ever heard was at the ‘bruthen blues fest’ a little town in gippsland of not much note, puts on a yearly bluesfest…anyways on the saturday night the local elder just got up on the mainstage…and litterally said to everyone;

‘yeah, welcome to country, lets have a good time and try not to wreck the joint’

was brilliant, now i know thats not going to translate into an opening ceremony of a sporting event or a school hall or anything…but the way the guy handled it, to the crowd he was addressing…brilliant…

I just want to put this here, as there have been many discussions on here and on TIA where the Aussie system has been revered and used as an example of how a health care system should be set up. All along I have stated that the success at ground level doesn’t match up with how much it’s respected?

Do we in Australia receive reasonably good health care even in 2025? Sure. But it’s neither cheap or has any wait time improvements over what people get in Western Europe. Certainly my experience in both the UK and France have been better. Ok, maybe not in the UK immediately post-Covid where the only way to be seen for a consult for even minor things was through a hospital…

Medicare is going downhill fast. And its not on any politician’s radar to fix.

Albanese has plans and is putting resources into Medicare. Dutton is not.

so your saying Medicare funding will stop if Dutton gets elected?

No that is too radical even for the bat shit stupid Qld conservatives running the Liberal party. But you know that and your comment is disingenuous.

I wouldn’t say that Dutton would stop funding Medicare. But similar to the NHS under the Tories over the last 14 years, funding will be cut so drastically that it will be completely unusuable for the average person unless they pay through their arse for private cover.

Unlikely although that is what Albo will insinuate this week as the Medicare angle ramps up.

Smart strategy so far - play the man. Albo wins that one.

Now for Medicare battle.

Whatever is said both are full of shit. Dutton will say we will spend (insert whatever number) and fix Labor’s mess. The spending promises from everyone is just fake nonsense numbers.

Nothing will happen either way post election. Greens will run the show. Can’t wait for this to be over.

What? Australia is going to end?

Yea it’s going down under

I hope you fellow Aussies have better voting options in your electorate than mine of Wide Bay: 1 Indy, Green and ALP. Then after that, things fall off a cliff: One Nation, Trumpet of Fascists, Family First and LNP. Oof.

trumpet of patriots…

i mean, its not even a literate use of three words…it means nothing…

its half funny, half devastating…

you litterally dont know whether to laugh or cry…at least the ‘monster raving looney party’ and ‘binny mcbinface’ werent being serious…

The only option you are missing is a separate liberal and national it would seem? I know QLD thought merging the two would produce an improvement but it’s just a mutation of all the worst bits ignorant and idiotic. The greens, independents and Labor candidates can all at least be considered surely?

  1. Indy (I like the cut of Casey’s jib), 2. Green, 3. Labor. After that, maybe family first is the least worst.

No worries!
