Cartoonist must be an angry Sydney FC fan unloading after last weeks debacle v Victory. After a loss everyone is in the firing line. Sounds familiar….
Or a Victory fan piling on. But it’s a decent sledge.
Also the Derby has lost some lustre in the recent past and now the Wanderers are at the bottom. I have been to a few in the past and for a while there, grounds were sold out especially when fickle Wanderers supporting were on the success bandwagon. 60,000 once at Olympic Park it was great.
For what it’s worth I enjoy the A League. But the casual fan was lost when they changed the TV deal from Fox/Kayo to Paramount. Crowds have fucked off big time.
im less interested in the A league than ever before.
manufactured teams, expensive day out…
rather watch one or even 6 level down at a local stadium with ethnic ties, get a 10 dollar souva and a six dollar beer…
the issue i find with the A league is for the price you pay, you could genuinely do something interesting with the family…and if you have to watch it on the TV…well, you might aswell flick over to the PL or La Liga or something…
i feel a bit disloyal, becuase it would be great to have a decent Australian first tier…but it really is hard to fake it…
I don’t pretend to know anything about Sydney FC or the A league in particular, but the artist is David Squires who was born in Swindon and grew up a Swindon Town fan. Apparently he moved to Sydney a few years back and took Australian citizenship.
This is absolutely appalling. And the ‘sentence’ makes it even worse - if this had been identified as antisemitic, or had been an arguably less serious crime like a heterosexual sexual assault without GBH, then the perpetrator would have received a (justifiably) far harsher sentence. It’s gravity is no different to successful prosecutions for attempted murder and it’s premeditation on the basis of sexual orientation consistent with an apparent ideological stance that alone has been sufficient for people to be excluded from the country. Appalling.
