Just want to say the KKK also distributed stuff at a local high school, near to where I live. Many of the moms in the area communicate on a forum, and they are kicking up a big stink and - to date - have run them out of town.
Good.
Edit
I am appalled and encouraged, in equal measure. Appalled that there are still people with such abhorrent views, and that they should try to gain wider acceptance…
Encouraged that there are still enough people, at least in the example I know about close to where I live, who will stand up to that bollocks and give it short shrift.
KKK had a very strong presence in Indiana during the 2nd wave (about 100 years ago) in particular, but even in the 60s. Not surprised at all to see the embers coming to life again.
I live in an affluent town and county with lots of well paid and highly skilled immigrants from around the world. I wonder if that might have rekindled some embers from the past?
My kids have grown up with friends from other countries and skin colors right here in central Indiana. It was a pleasant surprise to me when I moved here, and there hasn’t been a hint of racism with any of it along the way.
With the rise of the extreme right something ugly from the past could be attempting to rear its head again, when it should of course be long since dead and buried.
This is maybe, probably, a coincidence, but the amount of junk mail & phishing that has made it through into my inbox today has gone through the roof. I get maybe 3 a day in my outlook email. I have had 40 already today. 90% are titled something to do with Trump or Musk.
The saddest thing I think about when I see this truck pass by,
is that these insurrectionist, jingo MAGATs have stolen our flag and made a mockery of patriotism.
(To paraphrase Leonard Cohen):
“Everybody knows”
if a peace-loving, ordinary, patriotic American proudly puts an American flag on his front lawn or on his porch roof today, the average stranger passing by will automatically assume that the person inside that house is a Trump-loving, right wing whacko who you wouldn’t want to invite to your Thanksgiving dinner-
which I think, when I see that white pickup truck.
And that’s a damn shame. These dudes made it a bit of a challenge for me to hoist my own American flag in front of my own house.
I will still do it, but not with the same feeling of pride and comfort I would have had twenty years ago.
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows
Now their smokin’ up the junk bonds
And then they go get stiff
And they’re dancin’ in the yacht club
With Muff and Uncle Biff
But there’s one good thing that happens
When you toss your pearls to swine
Their attitudes may taste like shit
But go real good with wine
Eat the rich
There’s only one thing that they’re good for
Eat the rich
Take one bite now, come back for more
Eat the rich
I gotta get this off my chest
Eat the rich
Take one bite now, spit out the rest
Very niche, but the whole thing about the IRS “targeting conservative groups”, wasn’t that because some conservative groups had a pattern of abusing the tax code to masquerade as “charitable organisations” to begin with?
I seem to remember something like that, and how absurd it was that they were apologising. It’s just like Facebook and “censorship of the right” during 2016, when it was quite clear that they were being targeted because they were violating the rules of the platform.
