Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

When a violent drunk whose only qualification was that he was a soldier once is confirmed by the Senate as Sec. of Defence then you know the game is up.

Good luck America , and welcome to your slow and inevitable decline.

It only works in Australia because we are a nanny state same we do what we are told.

Would never work in America.

Pull your head in. Nanny state BS. Society cannot function if everyone just ‘does what they want’.

You can imagine how the call went: Trump pouting and throwing his toys out of the pram the minute the PM tells him that he can’t have Greenland just because he decided that he wants it.

Odds are that he’s already instructed the military to draw up invasion plans.

Exactly. There can be a good balance of individual freedom and laws. Don’t blame it on ‘laws’ the inability of selfish humans who refuse to follow laws plus the inability of the government to govern properly. What is so difficult to make voting mandatory and for humans to follow and adhere to this law? Not every law is bad, you know that right, freedom people?

This is all theoretical anyway. The party that regularly gets into power with the minority of votes and suppresses voters (guess which one it is!) would never let mandatory voting happen.

An interesting perspective, and one with which it is difficult to argue.

Seriously WTF is he doing?? He’s putting shaped charges to the foundations of the US government and detonating the explosives as fast as he can!!

I’m speechless. Hegseth. I guess the sexual assaulter is the qualifying mark.

Didn’t Biden control both house and senate early in his term? He could have push to change the policy of voting if he thinks it is right for Democrats and the country. Or is there a need to have a national vote on whether to make voting mandatory?

I’m not really equipped to answer this question, but I expect something that would be seen as more drastic than abolishing the electoral college would require a constitutional amendment which would need a super-majority (2/3rds). And the US doesn’t really do those anymore. They couldn’t get 2/3rds of Americans to agree if oxygen is good for you.

‘Went nuclear’: State Department reportedly ‘shocked’ as Rubio freezes foreign aid

Story by Daniel Hampton

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the State Department in Washington, U.S., January 21

State Department officials were reportedly “shocked” as new Secretary of State Marco Rubio froze most foreign aid grants — and the order appears to include military aid to Ukraine.

Rubio issued the new guidance Friday, Politico reported, freezing spending on most foreign aid grants for three months.

"The order, which shocked State Department officials, appears to apply to funding for military assistance to Ukraine, the report said.

Additionally, department staffers must issue stop-work orders on nearly all existing foreign assistance awards, effective immediately according to the report. A current official and two former officials told the outlet the freeze appears to pause aid to Ukraine, Jordan and Taiwan.

“State just totally went nuclear on foreign assistance,” a State Department official who was not named told the outlet.

The order includes exceptions for military aid to Egypt and Israel, according to Politico.

The pause on aid comes as Trump promises to negotiate a deal to end the war. He has been openly critical of both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

It also comes as Russia gains ground more quickly than at any time since launching the invasion in early 2022.

btw I have read several times that the doppelganger “Fake Melania” is now back in action again. I think that could probably even be true the way it looks

Yeah, you’ve got me. I was too optimistic.

I guess somewhere along the line people wake up to how bad it will get. Yeah thats not happening in 4 years.

It just seems to me that ultimately the problems that we are facing now and will increasingly face in the future can only be addressed on a global scale. Sadly politics is becoming increasingly about localism and even the individual.

I was wondering the same thing and found this.
Trump is a madman with very little education who will follow any fad a rich man proposes. Just another proposition he can not understand. What he does know is it divides along the lines Rep/Dem and rich/poor so for him it’s simple.
