Essentially land owning Republicans claim water to the north of the dry California south is being held back to save an almost extinct minuscule fish. They want water for their farming projects.
At times firefighters haven’t had enough pressure for their hoses.
Then there’s the Columbia river that is very confusing as there is no canal or pipeline from it to California. Also diverting water from it on the US side would mean the hydro electric production would probably stop.
Trump signed some decree last time he was President over this that Biden reversed. So it really is just tit for tat nonsense that Trump has brought to an extreme in politics.
Because it would have been an absurd use of what is limited time and political capital at normal times let alone given the situation he came into
It is a lot harder to build than to destroy. The things Project 2025 is doing to the foundations of government will take a generation to restore even if a Dem somehow gets into office as early as 2028. And that is before you consider the impacts of the changed international/diplomatic landscape.
He think the fires in LA are only still happening because Newsome wont allow water to enter the state because of concern over a type of endangered fish. Unsurprisingly, none of that is remotely true.
Thanks and @flobs too.
I was wondering if it were even a thing that is actually possible to do? Is the infrastructure in place to allow that water to be delivered?
Of coursemy thinking is that if it were possible, they would have done it already.
I don’t think so, because this is what his base wants and it is bigger than ever. The movement has religious connotations and like @Limiescouse has written many times, they turn their cape against the wind and change their opinions and arguments automatically when Caligula and his court switches gear. They are against something, then when Trump does something else, they are for what they were previously against.
They are all about feelings. The UK conservatives are not a cult so you cannot really compare it to Truss, I think.
It’s what I think anyway.
Lol, shocked are they ?
I don’t believe this. Everyone pretending as if they are shocked. If they are shocked, they are irredeemable fools.
Some of these headlines regarding shock and horror are funny ! Shock and horror was when he won the election, if one is still shocked now, then one has been sleeping under a rock far from civilisation and there is a limit to how long you can feel horror before you get used to that sensation too and become either blasè or break down.
Anyway, two countries are excepted. Israel and Egypt. Neither is surprising. This doesn’t affect military aid through department of defence to Ukraine either (but it does affect everything which is through the foreign ministry, including some military aid, but crucially monitary funding of civil society, schools, health care and much more).
WHO will lose a lot of funding of course and the chances for new pandemic will be higher, but we knew this already. Development aid is set to almost nill, except for some reason to Israel, but it’s what the American people wants.
But this isn’t shocking, it’s what they promised to do. My own stage of grief is well beyond this, I except much, much worse than this and will save my shock and horror for when I am actually surprised.
Anyway, there is an industrial war going on. The biggest and most all consuming in my lifetime. Daily events there are a lot more worthy of my attention than this social pornographic nonsense where we pretend that everything that happens now in the US is surprising or exciting. This is all covered in normal newspapers every day. Shrug
I am off.
I definitely think a third party is needed. I am hoping Trump does enough damage - still somehow recoverable, that he is booted out at the first opportunity, but I also have little hope for a sane and sensible country even if the Dems are in, as all the circumstances that have brought us here still remain.
I’m hoping the Dems have their own reform and what is offered next time captures hearts and minds much better, and that more people will be open to it after seeing that Trump is not their friend.

Joke’s on them. This is exactly my kink.
That just misses the point where more than half the USA lives in an alternate universe, in their own “information” bubble. No matter what the Democrats do, they are never winning against that.
And it’s the attitude that “the Democrats need to do something” or “the Democrats need to offer me something” that is exactly the other half of the problem. As the old saying goes, liberals fall in love, conservatives fall in line.
Don’t like the party? Join the damn thing and be an activist from within. I’m sure at this point @cynicaloldgit will jump in to say that it’s because all of us have been conditioned by neoliberalism to become customers instead of people…
It is the perfect illustration of Trump’s approach to immigration.
- pretend what he says should happen isnt already happening
- make a huge show of doing it, massively ramping up the expense of it
- do it less effectively than it was being done before.
75% of the country: “at least we dont have open borders anymore”
The mention of Truss was purely how long she lasted, as for trump I do wonder whether he will last the four years, and some are even wanting to give him a 3rd term.
To me the whole thing there is beyond stupid, he is doing what he likes, and this will inevitably crash the republicans, how long that takes is, at the end, down to the American people.
