I think the Colombia stand off illustrates this dilemma clearly.
To understand what happened you need to understand the intention of what Trump was trying to do beyond the fact that he sent a plane and it was rejected. It is the imagery of a strongman leader dealing harshly with criminals he was looking for, not an effective arm of a working immigration policy. That is what Petro reacted to, but it is very difficult for the news to describe that without a level of subjectivity describing what is underneath the objective facts. Unfortunately, avoiding that in reporting is beaten into journos from day 1. It is something the industry as a whole has done a terrible job of understanding the challenge and responding appropriately. Even as the likes of Bannon and later Rufo have come straight out to publicly explain to us how they are manipulating this to advance their agenda they still have not caught on and in doing so play an active role in advancing those agendas. The brevity needed in headlines makes it an area that is most severely challenged by this issue.
As for the CNN part of it, I very much doubt the talking heads made any more sense. CNN still does some good work, but it is telling, and a sad indictment of our society, that the only bits that has legs on other platforms are the theatrical blow ups. That defines most of their prime time coverage. No show that includes Rick Santorium, or Jeffery Lord, or now Scott Jennings, has any real interest in properly informing its viewers.

Should the press not be making more of the fact that the throughline of this administration so far is this is the Project 2025 presidency and Trump is either being played by puppet masters or barefaced lied to the public about his platform?

Youâre boss, @Livvy. Just wanted to clarify for all who may come after I deleted my posts. I happen to know Livvy and adore her. She has a heart of gold. My posts had nothing to do with her, but were a reaction to X. That platform is really scaring me after having faced racism four times since covid. At times, it makes me physically ill to see people treated cruelly. I have been working on curbing my reactivity but am still not great at it. Maybe someday Iâll be able to sit through it. Again, Livvy, I apologize if I expressed myself incorrectly.

Itâs all good Amit, everyone overreacts sometimes. I understand that, it happens. Sometimes you have to blame someone when the messages are so extreme, but in this case it really doesnât matter whether theyâre from x, bluesky or somewhere else, the message is unfortunately the same. It doesnât matter which platform it comes from. I wouldnât post anything that isnât the same everywhere. At the moment itâs just not possible to watch videos from bluesky here. Thatâs a disadvantage. But maybe that can be changed somehow.

The speed at which they are spewing out these EOâs, firings, abandonment of treaties and responsibilities, cancellation of rights and regulations, and directed, over-the-top and vindictive enforcements of lawsâŚI would have thought itâs obvious these were all locked and loaded in their gun chambers, so to speak.
Question is, what are the opposition doing trying to resist this clearly directed and planned destruction? Each and every one of these need to be both scrutinised and made public as possible. They throw out the big ticket ones (which they know will
garner the most reactions, whether they work or not) so that the âsmallerâ ones can be snuck through.
You canât become a country as rich and powerful as US is without having responsibilities to both your own downtrodden and those around the world that, frankly, you got rich off. It gives the rest of us outside no pleasure whatsoever to see the US crash and burn like this.
