Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

I think it has to do so - American technology is only as dependable as the relationship. In Ottawa, the F-35 contract is coming under question, but the purchase was so delayed that cancellation is not really an option either. But if Elon does as he has threatened, to cancel the F-35 program entirely, the US makes Canada’s choice for it. Probably a bespoke Grippen order to serve immediate requirements and joining either the FCAS or Tempest projects.

I think I saw a stat there are more Republicans in California than in almost all the other Red states added together (can’t remember the exact numbers but it makes the point).

This map says it all, county level voting

Yeah probably. It’s similar to the stat that there are more Muslims in India than there are in Saudi, Turkey, and Iran combined.

This is incorrect. You failed seriously at your routine inspection. The demographical issue in Ukraine and it’s pyramid has had the same issues you point to since before the full scale war. Everyone with cursory interests knows this, and this is why Ukraine has been unwilling to mobilise it’s 18-25 Year old generation. It has been broadcasted for 3 years and written countless articles about. If anything, the younger generation in Ukraine has been spared, not exhausted in any form or way.
The war did not do this, as you falsely claim. Please don’t post fake news that is easily researched. You cannot write that “this is what war does” and expect to get away with it when it is fundamentally false and it is common knowledge that it is incorrect. The war is fought by Ukrainian 38-60 year’s old, for the most part. And this has been a pressing issue, again written countless articles about.

The Ukrainian demographic pyramid has been one of the main issues of discussion now for 3 years.

The Americans are going to ask us to spend more money on defense. But I don’t think that this necessarily has to mean more military hardware. It might mean increasing drone production, increasing cyber warfare capabilities, securing rare earth metals production, etc.

Buying more ice breakers and putting a military base in Iqualit are good ideas, but thinking out of the box re defense matters might be more beneficial to Canada. Along maybe with a few more planes, boats, and so on.

North America is incredibly vulnerable to cyber warfare. Pouring money into that might be the best use of Canadian tax dollars. The Avro Arrow 2.0 probably ain’t gonna happen.

There’s not going to be another civil war. Civil unrest maybe, but not war. It’s simply too unorganized and people are too lazy to make it happen.

Besides, Trump received more votes in California than he did in most states that voted red.

Apparently CBP has dramatically increased their interception and confiscation of eggs at both the Mexican and Canadian borders. Fentanyl, not quite so successful.

The math really doesn’t look good.

Sure. There are more people staying in California than most of the other red states put together.

No one is denying that this isn’t a comprehensive Trump win.

Interesting take

Never really thought morals mattered much in the GOP

What I mean is that there are no clear lines of demarcation. It’s not obvious how a war would be fought.

Sure. I don’t see a seperation/civil war along the lines of blue/red anyway.

The democrats need to reinvent themselves bigtime. Starting from their nomination system to the message they want to give out to the population in general. If they do that and that’s a very big IF , they might find people disillusioned with the system (with the added Trump implosion) to probably flip the votes(even to begin doing that in a red state like Texas). It’s a very big IF though and it looked probably easier 2 years back.

As I’ve repeatedly said in this thread, Democratic economic policy is popular, Democratic culture war is not. The Democratic brand is really bad right now.

The best thing the Democrats have going for them is that Trump is your crazy uncle ranting at the dinner table. If Trump keeps this up, and Democrats act just semi-normal, 2026 should a pretty big win for them.

The blue states might just be best off leaning into this round of cuts. Energy and Commerce needs to cut 880B under the current House Budget proposal, and is not supposed to be touching Medicare or Child Health. Medicaid is about 880B, and the 3rd largest line item under that committee. There is no way the Medicaid program at the Federal level looks anything like what it has with these cuts.

At present, the States cover 20% of the cost. Projected cuts would see that shift to somewhere between 50-75%. There is absolutely no way most red states will be able to fund that, some of the blue states should be able to.

It does not indeed. But the issues you pointed to were there prior to 2022. Made worse by refugee flood of course. But Ukraine has not spent its younger generation on the battlefield. If anything, this is a “Father’s war” being fought by fathers and grandfathers.
