Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

The way this is written the intended meaning isnt clear, but I assume you mean it was clearly a comprehensive win. Narrative it seems to be viewed that way, but statistically it was not. It was the narrowest winning margin since the courts gave the 2000 election to Bush

Are these proposals just thrown together or it is something they’d have needed time to research before putting them forward.

It was “The deal” Zelinsky refused to sign yesterday. They have researched it in as far as they know very well where all natural resource deposits in Ukraine are and where the current front lines are:

So I guess it depends what one means by research. It’s left field, in as much as a pure colonial grab and punitive Versailles Peace where Ukraine have to pay the US for ages, is left field and researched. Normally, it would be seen as crazy for the US to demand this, but these days it is not.

I guess the plan is for Ukraine to either be enslaved by the US or give Trump the opportunity to paint them as the bad guys that don’t want peace, thereby justifying complete withdrawal? Not that they care that much anyway.

I think it is this part myself.

It really is akin to outright slavery. The US has crossed over into the genuinely evil.

Think a 10 year old kid would have wiped them inside a minute, make you wonder where the brains are, certainly not in the current bunch.
This raving lunatic has been in office 4 weeks and he has spot fires going everywhere.
Not so much who wants to be the 51st state, more likely, who does not want to be.
That list seems to be lengthening daily.

I wonder what would happen if Ukraine offered to sign over those in areas currently controlled by Russia?

Nothing much I think, since the US has no leverage and knows that Putin gives nothing away unless forced.

Here is some commentary on the entire “deal”. But you have to open twitter, I guess.

It’s a thread…

Of course it was a comprehensive win. I’m going to use an NFL metaphor because it works better.

If Team A beats Team B 31-28, that looks like a pretty close game. And it is. But if Team A gained 100 more yards, held the ball for 10 more minutes, had 8 more first downs, won the turnover battle, and won almost all of the other statistical battles, that’s a comprehensive win. It’s not a blowout or a necessarily a decisive win, but it’s a comprehensive win.

Basically, in virtually every metric, Trump made gains everywhere. The most mind-boggling statistic IIRC was that in the over 3,000 counties in the country, Trump made gains in all but something like two. In virtually every state and almost every demographic, Trump made gains. That’s what “comprehensive” means.

If you have a VAT, Trump is going to levy a tariff on your country. FYI, most of this post was written by one of his economic team.

A VAT doesn’t distort the choice between domestic and imported, it is a consumption tax levied on all alternatives. Makes no sense.

US starting a tariff war with 175 of 193 UN economies in the world on that basis. Smoot-Hawley on crystal meth

I guess the Guantanamo Bay deal has certain similarities.

As I said earlier, it’s either a troll, a retard or both. The best policy is to mute/block/ignore this deplorable.

Is there no way to summon threadreaderapp on it?

It sounds more like the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact to be honest.

You’d think they would look at India and come to a conclusion that tariffs don’t work.

India has extraordinarily high tariffs (mostly as a way to protect their rich businessmen). But the over indulgence of local businesses don’t allow the economy to grow beyond a particular limit. Foreign auto manufacturers for instance do face a tough time in India and the losers of this particular indulgence by the Indian government to indian manufacturers are the Indian public who’ve got to shell out quite a bit more for rather substandard products.

Fwiw , I don’t disagree with the idea of reciprocal tariffs when it comes to India in particular. For all of India’s boasting of being open market etc , the entry barriers for foreign businesses to come in and do business and still remain competitive with respect to price. If only to force the Indian govt to give up its protectionism of indian industries.

The cunts currently in charge of the country are 100% atlantists. The fact that Trump has taken power hasn’t changed one iota to this. If Trump negociates ‘peace’ with Putin over the heads of Ukraine and the EU, the Switzerland government will probably acclaim the genius… :see_no_evil:

I am beginning to wonder if this is by design. Truss mega lettuce policy with some useful short positions.
