It is hard not to see what Vance is demanding as akin to the sort of ritual humiliation that the Romans wanted as part of any surrender - kiss the eagle, that sort of crap. All around the world, this will be seen and genuine hatred for America fostered. Even Russians have to be infuriated seeing this kind of arrogance.

This conversation is absolutely fascinating
The guy is a historian who has studied migratory patterns of Americans. His main point is to describe how drastically the movement of Americans has slowed down over the past 100 years, to a point of almost ossification starting in the 70s. He talks about the 2 or 3 primary factors that seemed to have caused that and they are all âholy shit how did I not know about thisâ moments.
Like how clothes washing facilities were so sparse in CA in the 19th century that people used to ship their clothes to Haiwaii for them to get washed, and that was the opening the new Chinese immigrants used to open laundromats (the origin of the stereotype). Zoning as a concept was then introduced as a way to restrict laundromats from communities as a way to remove the chinese from their neighborhoods without ever having to explicitly mention the chinese.
The real kicker is it ends with a theory of this has been such a driver of the political polarization, and the growth of resentment, since the 70s in line with some additional political factors that slowed migration rates to a crawl.
Absolutely fascinating stuff.

Trump just cut-off Zelensky in the Oval Office for no reason other than Zelensky seeking assurances that his nation would be protected from any further Russian aggression, leading to an intense exchange. Now negotiations appear to be cut off entirely. âGreat deal makerâ my ass.

I donât think it really has. America was already not particularly well-liked. Sure as hell not in China, Africa, South America, the Middle East, the list goes on. Longstanding friends and allies are completely alienated. Even Russians are infuriated to see Trump lording over Ukraine, trying to carve out what they see as territory they have paid for in blood.
