Not sure about that. Trump wants to be the guy who brokered a peace deal (any peace deal, even if it means total capitulation to Putin) and needs Ukraine to play ball. The Ukrainians just need to string him along until Europe gets its act together, or some other thing distracts Trump. For him, it’s about bragging rights, for them it’s their very survival, and they’ve shown themselves to be very tenacious and resourceful. He is neither.

Europe hasn’t got its act together even in two years, and with the rise of Right it’s more likely that they will remain wobbly. Ukraine is playing Russian Roulette with Trump.

We were hearing yesterday that many if not most of the tax subsidies for the IRA are going away. Don’t know if that’s true or not.
Also heard for the first time that greenfield solar in the US is essentially dead, at least for the foreseeable future. We could see that coming but heard it confirmed. That was before Trump. There is simply too much capacity coming online and not enough offtakes. Unlevered IRRs of these projects are in the low to mid single digits, and that includes with the tax equity. Finally, was in Europe last week talking to a big infrastructure manager who said offshore wind is dead.

This Epstein File stuff has been even dumber than I could have imagined and is yet more evidence of just how unserious these people are.
- There are no “Epstein files” as are popularly understood by MAGA
- Lots of information is already in the public record as a result of various IG reports, criminal and civil cases and FOIs, but as that meet the criteria of what MAGA people think the list is they assume there is more bombshell stuff to come. And unless it something is presented that lists in a ledger entries that say “Bill Clinton did the sex on May the Juneth” these MAGA types will keep thinking stuff is being hidden
- The moron AG got too far over skiis promising the release of these “files” and either because she was too dumb to know the difference or just assumed others would be (50-50 chance) just compiled all the already publicly available info into a binder and invited RW influencers to a presentation of it
- SM immediately called it out for the BS it was with MAGA types raging about “where is the new stuff?”
- The AG then responded by accusing the FBI (DEEP STATE) of derailing her by burying the relevant info
- MAGA is now in a conspiratorially tail spin about which aspects of the Deep State are blocking the AG from realizing Emperor Trump’s goals of finally exposing the crimes of sex criminals
Recall that the FBI felt what was already in the publicly known information was sufficient to charge him back in the early 10s, but the man who would go on to be given a high ranking position in Trump’s first administration illegally gave him a sweetheart deal to make it all go away and then hid the details of it. A Trump guy did that.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see some states looking for independence in a near future. NYC for instance would be better off on its own. Famously, the great writer from New York Paul Auster called for it during Trump’s first term. The West coast could also reflect on why they’d want to continue supporting those MAGA redneck states, when they are now so fundamentally different in their core values.
One could ask oneself if there is even a USA left. Oficially yes of course. But in the heads of its citizens?

I don’t know how realistic that is - the Electoral College map makes the fundamental division a lot more geographically clean that it really is. Shown by county, the US is divided in a very different way, very clearly urban-rural. The ‘Cascadia’ idea has been around for years (WA-OR-CA breaking away), but once you get away from the coasts those states are remarkably divided themselves.
US history has also established that there is really not a clear pathway to secession, quite the opposite.
The more plausible pathway is a weakening of the New Deal Federal state, including starkly limiting Federal taxation powers in favour of greater State level. The Republicans have opened the door to that, and it would seem quite possible for upstate NY Republicans for example to act in DC to ‘keep New York money’ in NY. etc.
