Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

What?

Anyone who’s been paying attention for the last decade or more would already have known their true colours. No one should ever have trusted them to begin with.

If only that’s all this was, this is so so so much worse. We’re watching something that will change the trajectory of world events as much as 9/11 did, if not more so.

DC/London bubble. This is literally what people mean by that.

And yet the same people still fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

As an aside, this is literally covering geopolitics/current affairs as though it’s a sports game, and speaks to the complete vacuity of modern “journalism”.

Congratulations idiots, you voted for the Russian takeover.

@Magnus take care of your mental health. This shit is just the beginning. Absolutely absurd.

I guess it’s completely forgotten now, but anyone remember Independence Day 2018? This is just the completion of the selling out of the country to Russia.

Forget alliteration, they don’t even understand responsibility. Calling them “dummies” lets them weasel out with the excuse of being dumb, calling them puppets points out the obvious, that they’re not acting in the interest of the United States of America.

The hilarious part about Orbán’s words is… Putin started the war.

Who’s the weak one then?

Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan. This means they’re the enemy.

I think this dwarfs 9/11, though precisely today won’t necessarily stand out the same way. The 9/11 attacks were the US paying the price for being the foundation of Western rules-based geopolitical order. We all recognized the US also derived enormous benefit from that order, but in the end al-Qaeda’s attacks were motivated by hatred of the West, the US was merely the biggest and most obvious target. In that sense, 9/11 did not change the world, just the focus. The fundamental question was whether or not that Western order could re-assert itself.

What happened today is not quite a re-alignment, because no one really knows where the US ends up. But from today, the US is unequivocally not the foundation of the rules-based order that was in existence from 1946-2024. It is not even in support of it. By those standards, 9/11 was merely vandalism on the part of those on the outside looking in. Today was far more fundamental

I finally caught up with all that happened in the completely uneventful 11 hours that I was not on the forums.

When I saw this:

I expected it to simply be more drivel about DEI and shouting at windmills from our new resident troll, but no. This is much worse than that.

WTAF.

And the worst part isn’t all the rhetoric or the complete destruction of norms.

It’s the speed at which the clowns in power are dismantling America. The command to stop all planning against Russia should horrify everyone. The federal government is literally being told to let Russia come in and take everything they want.

This isn’t a negotiation, it’s a complete capitulation. Forget about Canada becoming the 51st state, the United States is becoming a Russian oblast.

Good morning, what a sh*t birthday, I woke up so angry that this sick guy was even re-elected and what else might await us. I could never have imagined everything that has happened in such a short time. And here in Germany the idiots are celebrating carnival and pretending everything is fine. I could cry tbh.

I can only hope that this backfires, that Europe unites and this disgusting Trump government has shot itself in the foot.

Europe appears to be uniting around Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk: “Dear Zelensky, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone.”

President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausea: “Ukraine, you’ll never walk alone.”

Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen: “Dear Zelensky, Denmark proudly stands with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.”

French President Emmanual Macron: “There is an aggressor: Russia. There is a people being aggressed: Ukraine. We were all right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago and to continue doing so. We, that’s the Americans, the Europeans, Canadians, Japanese, and many others. Thank you to all those who have helped and continue to do so. And respect to those who, from the beginning, have been fighting. Because they are fighting for their dignity, their independence, for their children, and for the security of Europe.”

President of Moldova Maia Sandu: “The truth is simple. Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine defends its freedom—and ours. We stand with Ukraine.”

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson: “Sweden stands with Ukraine. You are not only fighting for your freedom but also for all of Europe’s. Slava Ukraini! ”

Incoming German Chancellor Friedrich Mer: “Dear Volodymyr , we stand with [#Ukraine] in good and in testing times. We must never confuse aggressor and victim in this terrible war. (FM)” -

Crotia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenković: “Croatia knows from its own experience that only a just peace can last. The Croatian Government stands firm in its belief that Ukraine needs such a peace - a peace that means sovereignty, territorial integrity, and a secure Europe.”

Finland’s Prime Minister: “Finland and the Finnish people stand firmly with Ukraine. We will continue our unwavering support and work towards a just and lasting peace.”

Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal: “We stand united with and Ukraine in our fight for freedom. Always. Because it is right, not easy.”

Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris: “Ukraine is not to blame for this war brought about by Russia’s illegal invasion. We stand with Ukraine.“

Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkevics: “Ukraine is a victim of the Russian aggression. It fights the war with the help from many friends and partners. We need to spare no effort for just and lasting peace. Diplomacy sometimes is the art of the impossible in difficult circumstances. Latvia stands with Ukraine”

Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dick Schoof: ”The Netherlands supports Ukraine as firmly as ever. Now more than ever. We want a lasting peace and an end to the war of aggression started by Russia. For Ukraine and its people, and for Europe.”

Prime Minister of Luxembourg Luc Friedsen: “Luxembourg stands with Ukraine. You are fighting for your freedom and a rules based international order. ”

That assumes that Trump didn’t want Vance to interject.

If one thing is for sure , Vance is being groomed as a future president.

AGreed. And the thing people need to get their head around is that it is happening because Trump thinks it is a good. The search for Kompromant is completely the wrong framing. Trump is doing this because he believes it is in Trump’s best interests. Many in his sphere, like Rubio and Graham, may be acting under the duress of political expediency in what their party has become, but Putin doesnt need dirt on Trump to force him into this direction. To Trump, Putin is a business partner who has presented a direction where they can be in each other’s mutual best personal interests. That doesnt preclude Putin manipulating Trump, which is likely reality, but at least in Trump’s mind he is doing what he thinks is right.
