I don’t know what happened with him. I don’t trust it and feel this is just the evolution of the grift and expect he will revert to type at some point soon, but for the past 3-4 months he has been about the clearest most succinct critics of Trump and the MAGA movement.

It is obvious Trump et al are hellbent on dismantling what was supposed to be a democracy,seems to me the only option is a dictatorship,which clearly they have collective wet dreams about!
For me anyway, this has been a long term operation with the main antagonist being Russia, China to a lesser extent but more a less a willing observer as they benefit without having to put much skin in the game, as well as other players controlled by them, such as Iran and the yet not so clear involvement of Saudi Arabia (more on that in a bit). It’s clear that militarily, in a conventional conflict China, Russia, Iran, North Korea etc stand little chance for all of their bluster and rhetoric. When one country has the largest and 2nd largest airforces in the world but just in different branches of service alongside a defence budget bigger than all of them combined then really, it’s a no brainer for any serious player in the game to see. Add in Canada, the European countries, South Korea, Japan and Australia plus the overwhelming technological edge and aside from internet warriors and social media hysteria, there really is no parity between East and West.
The one thing the East does have is money and the one thing the West has is individual freedoms to say just what you please as well individual and corporate greed built into the psyche of pretty much all of its citizens which leaves itself open to corruption that can infect the entire governmental process completely. Here is South Africa we’ve come across something that we’ve called State Capture whereby rich individuals from India called the Guptas, enriched and subverted powerful governmental figures in the ruling party. I will not delve into specifics as even now, they are murky, however suffice it to say that money was siphoned off in billions, mostly from public utilities such as our power provider leaving us with a country and economy largely in shambles.
In our case, this enterprise was pure greed, in the case of the above actors listed above, the same process is being used to weaken the West from within and to corrupt, obfuscate and divide. America is paralysed in a toxic mix of hate across party lines, hate along racial lines, hate along religious lines, hate along lines of sexual orientation, hate, hate, hate and all of it being formented and belched out in a toxic miasma by the now President and his cabal. At the same time, similar playbooks but on a smaller scale have been played out across the UK and Europe in the rise of divisions, a migrant crisis created and on ongoing, the rise of the Far Right again, Brexit etc. Again, I’m not going to delve into each of those one by one but taken as a whole, to my eye, this has all been bought and paid for by Russia in particular and China as a willing and sometimes participating observer and all for a fraction of the cost of the US defense budget in the way they can exploit individual greed, narcissism and a thirst for power. There is a reason Tesla has grown just as there is a reason why Musk bought off Twitter. It’s given these actors a megaphone across which to blast anything and everything that will stick and hey, free speech remember.
This is where the role of the Saudis is less clear but given the Kushner billions and the classified documents case, the soft power they have been exerting and the sheer amount of money they possess, I suspect that they harbour grander geopolitical ideas than first meets the eye. I also suspect Israel to have had its own dealings with the devil for what they view as their own security needs and the events of Oct 6 and beyond has to be taken into account and viewed in another light. It was an horrific event, then and the aftermath but on the grand scale of things it is simply a skirmish to create and sow more division in Europe but especially the States and that topic alone led to a significant division in the Democratic party and also played it’s part in their loss; Trump could lie through his teeth and not give a shit while Biden and Harris had to take the ‘high’ ground and lay out their objectives knowing that they were going to lose a portion of their vote by doing so. In affect, a human tragedy on a horrible scale was created partly as a diversion which in itself show simply the barbaric lengths that these people will go to.
The effect of Elon Musk and his social media bullhorn on this as well the enabling that has gone on by other tech and media billionaires cannot be overstated. Along with all of the geopolitical machinations it cannot have happened without manipulation of public perception as well as the dissemination of fake news, bad faith agendas and sheer distraction that they have enabled. They have preyed on people’s fears but also their likes and dislikes to manipulate opinion and drive outrage. It’s all too deliberate and strategic to not all be connected to Russian interest. But where does that leave China and surely they cannot be innocent of all this? I don’t see quite the active role by Xi as Putin has taken however I think there is a longer game being played by Xi. Putin played chess while all the Western democracies were playing checkers but Xi,… I don’t know, perhaps something akin to letting your enemies fight each other to s standstill and then swooping in afterward at minimal loss.
As it stands now, Trump is paralyzing America in pretty much all facets not just diplomatically but also domestically and militarily. He’s gutting agencies that some people have never heard of yet perform vital public functions. He’s literally creating disease outbreaks that have not happened for decades and letting it happen, he’s telling agencies to stand down from certain functions. If you’d given someone a road map destroy a country from within and then said carry on it wouldn’t look too different to this. America might just be fucked, they’re just too divided across too many lines and they’re being gutted like a fish and Trump, Vance, Musk and all of their cronies are still at work.
I think this should be a lesson to all democratically elected officials in what is left of the free world. There is a Trump among your nations, that’s certain, but you’re in power now so make it count instead of waiting to be next Biden in ceding power to a madman and a traitor. Europe is still powerful and rich and technologically advanced and it’s clear appeasement does not work. America cannot be trusted in it’s current state so create a new defence alliance and stick to it, with military force if need be. I can understand the willpower and appetite to have to fight and die in numbers is not there but the alternative is a death by a 1000 cuts anyway so deterrence is a far better alternative than finding the enemy at the gate with only a rock to throw at him. In the East, a bloc between Australia, Japan and South Korea is a must and must include other nations who’s interests have been impugned by China. Co-operation between these two entities; European and Asian must be enshrined. Then, India needs to be courted once again. America can then be left to it’s America first agenda until it comes to it senses. Putin might have accomplished his goal but a united Europe would be a formidable foe alongside with the Asia/Pacific allies they have. I think countries should look at this as a chance to unite rather than the absolute division that it looks to be right now.
