Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

A correction and some important details:

But of course, this will mean that UA must give up it’s Kursk salient earlier than the Russian’s otherwise could kick them out. The salient was waning anyway (only 20km wide) and Ru is attacking Sumy and it’s flank. But US intel has been critical to stymy the Russian offensive there. And of course, if they stop sharing intel on force gatherings inside Russia, then that is awful for the wider war effort everywhere and not just in Kursk, obviously.

2 weeks ago? What was the date of Tulsi’s confirmation?

The vote was 12th of February.

I don’t know how fast she could begin following Moscow-directives.

They can kill starlink in Ukraine anytime they choose.

That’s a signed contract, so yes they can, but it’s not at all the same.

I purposefully skipped this shit show. I am consciously trying to take in less of this stuff as I feel where Trump is concerned it is not only not worth the time, but actually makes it harder to understand what is happening. Anyway, so I only caught up with the details this morning and noted a specific piece of his comments on Greenland that most people seem to have glossed over. He claims they want to become part of the US and then said that it is important the right to self determination is respected.

Palestinians on seeing that bit of the speech

Well, Greendland reitrerated, once again today, that they don’t want to join the US. Trump vil ha Grønland: - Vi er ikke til salgs, og kan ikke bare tas, svarer statsminister?
And of course, De Jure, they are under the Kingdom of Denmark.
Not that it matters to the US.

Well done Greenland.

And it is ridiculous, because of Trump, that they even need to affirm their wishes.

Contracts won’t matter one bit to these guys. Also , I take it that starlink is being paid by the US govt to Musk.

Wild, I just listened to the 538 post-SotU podcast and they started by acknowledging that they are aware of the reporting but cannot comment any further as no one at Disney or ABC News has said anything to them about it.

EDIT: LOL, that originally quoted a completely different post than I intended it to

Republicans: We need to run the government like a business
Lib: You mean “we have to spend money to make money?”
Republican: No, milk it dry then once it cannot function anymore sell off the remnants for spare change

I’d go back even further. GW Bush’s administration invented ‘proofs’ and presented them in front of the UN, in order to get an agreement for attacking Iraq. That was a key moment imo, which undermined the UN, and already revealed that the US can’'t be trusted anymore. This is roughly 25 years ago.

I blame the EU for not having smelt the coffee earlier They absolutely should have.

The difference with Bush was the electorate responded to the duplicity (or at least it can be seen that way). The perception then was that US hegemony can be (is?) abused, but the power to do that is restrained by accountability to an electorate that wont stand for it. The issue today is the knowledge that a big enough portion of the electorate will actually stand for it and even cheer it on.

These are admittedly naïve readings of the US, but it has been the story everyone is content to tell themselves. The artifice of that has now been completely removed. It is today not possible to be America’s ally. There are no longer national interests in play. There are just temporary relationships among business partners doing a deal that is in the interest of the respective heads of state, not the countries they represent. Getting rid of Trump no longer solves this because by voting him in again, despite everything, it shows the world that this is who we are and the 17-20 era was not a fluke.

The only shocking thing about this is how close it was.
Any constitution that doesn’t protect what ‘congress’ has passed from a simple décrit is not worth the paper it’s written on.
Those 4 judges should bé struck off for not following simple ‘constitutional’ law. :flushed:

Easy solution would be to not trade with the US.

What do they have that noone rlse in the world can provide?
