Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

Why would Zelensky accept to go back to the White House?
Surely only if he is forced to for a Trump publicity stunt over the only way to sign peace treaty papers.
What a fucking gobshite Trump is!

Musk is such a genius.

Never once thinking that going full project 2025 could bite him in the ass.

Has anyone told Trump the news about Greenland ? That if Denmark did agree to sell it, Britain has first refusals to buy it😂

Banks won’t repossess Twitter, or force a sale. That is far too complicated. They would need to appoint management and then find a way to get value out of it. Much easier to take the collateral Tesla stock and sell that into the market to get their capital if it comes to it.

Just saw a brief headline on the news about Canada has filed to sell USA bonds, any canucks know how much they hold ?

The sale was not Treasury (US) bonds that Canada holds, it was issuance of new Canadian Government debt denominated in US dollars. Purpose was to increase foreign currency reserves.

Probably won’t affect him much… Didnt he get a $40bn payout from Tesla last year?

It is laughable. Trump on Tuesday - buy a Tesla! Trump on Wednesday - automobiles should not face emissions requirements

Yeah I was kind of thinking reputation. That’s shredded now for many people I guess. No doubt some will still fawn over him.

Still Tesla getting a beating financially is no bad thing at the moment. I note the irony in asking for an electric car company to fail. Although he probably picks up some more government contracts.

I wish it was Space X though. I find myself increasingly loathing that company the more I learn about it.

Secretary of State clearly explains why foreigners who agitate support for Hamas can - and will - be kicked out of the country. No foreigner has the right to be in the United States.

Sigh. You ignored my last response to your bullshit (well not ignored, you just gave it a trolly laughing emoji and didnt bother trying to rebut anything) so there is not point going over again why this is all bollocks.

But one thing I will add is that whether or not he initially came here on a student visa is irrelevant. He is and was at the time a permanent resident. You cannot get a permanent residence status as a result of being here on a student visa as Marco says here. You would think the SoS, and someone who spent his entire life in federal politics focusing on the details of immigration, would know that. So why the misdirection and repeated framing of him just being here as a student if it isnt true or relevant to the case? If the arguments were on his side why the need to spin it? It seems Marco is at the pound the table and yell like hell state of the famous Sandberg quote

If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the law and the facts are against you, pound the table and yell like hell

I don’t know the case, but the overwhelming majority I have seen have been pro Palestine, not pro Hamas. They believe Palestinians have the right to exist, and the right to self-determination, instead of being completely bullied by Israel. Bullied is an understatement. It is organized apartheid, veering into genocide.

That is wrong all day every day, and if someone has been arrested or is getting kicked out for calling that out, shame on America.

If they have indeed been vocally pro Hamas then that’s not on, although a deeper dive there would ask, “What factors have given rise to Hamas?”

As I said before, the line between protected free speech and terrorism is a murky one and if the government wanted to make that case then they should. But they arent even bothering to. It is incredibly easy in cases like this for the authorities to tie some trumped up criminal charge for someone participating in or leading a protest. That would give them the path to do this within the judicial framework for revoking someone’s status. The fact they are not bothering should be front and center in the way people are viewing this.

This is NOT an argument about free speech. It is one about the government using extra judicial power to disappear inconvenient people. And not even doing it secretly, but out in the open to send a signal to everyone else.

I suppose this was a metaphor or a joke I don’t understand, but no, they’re really not.

In a certain country, people not liked by the government have a habit of falling out of windows…

I dont have words to describe how pathetic and weird this all is

The absurd flip on EVs as if they’ve always understood the value prop of them. The tacky product placement in a medium where should not be happening.
