Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

AoC’s going public with her criticisms of Schumer is easy to present as standard Democratic party infighting - moderate/establishment vs progressive. But this is from Pritzker’s CoS who I think frames it more accurately.

Finally. Good news.

This isn’t about free speech. Everyone has the right to protest and say what you believe, no matter how stupid it may be. You want to march in the street with flags paid for by the state of Qatar, that’s fine.

What you don’t have the right to do is destroy property, pitch tents for months on end, ban people from entering public places, intimidate people, be violent, shut down graduations, and so on. It took the federal government to cut funding before the gutless institution did what should have been done months ago.

Oh, the irony.

I dont recall ever seeing this level of public opposition to a Dem leader’s position. It’s one thing for Schumer to be there by himself with this position, because in some ways that is the leader’s job…to go out and face the fire for an unpopular position that needs to be taken to give cover for others in your party. It’s also not uncommon for members of the house to criticize the leaders in the senate for their positions either. But the number of Dem senators coming out and publicly challenging him on this is something else. This isnt just Bernie types that can be waved away as shit stirrers (not that are many more…any?..of those in the Senate), but basic bitch establishment guys like Warner, Warnock, Slotkin, and even Murphy.

This is approaching vote of confidence levels on his leadership.

Musk: Hitler didnt murder millions of people…public sector workers did"

I guess that is as good as reason as any to get rid of the Department of Education as you dont want those people doing another holocaust. Sig Heil

It was interesting, but also in terms of the reality they present and then just miss connecting the dots on.

For those who havent listened to it, one of the guest’s contributions was explaining that there was an actual economic theory floated by people in Trump’s orbit about how tariffs could be used to recreate a new economy. Tariffs would be part of a strategy that creates an environment where the dollar is weakened, encouraging more of our money to be spent at home. But this theory acknowledges there is a very fine narrow path to doing this in a way that doesn’t crash the US economy and make us worse off.

What they didnt quite connect the dots on is how Trump has veered so far off course from the strategy outlined by that theory. Much the like Evangelicals knew he wasnt one of them but saw him as their weapon who would bring about the change they wanted, so did these economists. The problem is Trump doesnt understand any of this beyond “use tariffs” and so now is implementing the strategy in a haphazard way based on his own amusement. And that is Trump to a tee. There is no deal that can be made with him, because even ignoring his narcicism and lack of ethics, he doesnt understand anything about anything and so cannot stick to the script even if he wanted to be faithful to an agreement.

I think there is a very good chance Ossoff becomes the Democratic nominee for president one day and under normal circumstances his prospects for winning would be good.

People point to his win against Purdue as just an Anti Trump one, but Purdue was not considered vulnerable at all going into that campaign. He is progressive in a way that seems to code centrist enough (he’s a white guy) for people who get upset about that stuff to not get upset by him. And he seems to have good political instincts in when to raise his head and which fights to pick.
